In 1844 Karl Marx and Friedrich Engles wrote The Communist Manifesto. This book set the basic foundations of a communist state. Karl Marx is often referred to as the “Father of Communism”. Communism is where all economic and social activity is controlled by the government. Citizens have zero say in anything that happens and no freedoms. The government or usually a dictator is in charge of everything that happens. China and North Korea are some of the oldest countries practicing communism. North Korea is one of the best examples of a communist state. The gap in wealth in the country is tremendous, while majority of people suffer from extreme poverty in the streets, a select few are very wealthy. China is different however, they have an extreme mixed economy with a communist base. However they do have a capitalistic side as well, together the two can produce a very wealthy nation. Many problems are brought with using both sides involving human well being. Cuba and Vietnam were both communist countries, Cuba has been stuck in the 1950’s having loads of trouble moving forward. Communism can only begin with a very strong dictator. Not all dictator’s have to be bad, however a ton of power is placed in one's hands. In most cases the leaders are power hungry and crazed people. First, everyone has a job which they are forced to work. Unemployment is low because of everyone being forced to work. Also crime rate is lower because of extreme punishments and the fear in the citizens lives. Majority of communism is negative. There is no free business, the government controls every part of it. No one business gets more funding than another, limiting the competition. Also citizens have zero freedom of speech and no say in anything that happens. The government owns everything in a communist
