With the Woman's rights movement that occurred the mid 19th century in the United States, and then again in the early 20th century it shows that progress can be done for any group of people if they fight hard enough. So jumping forward to the 21st century Woman's rights is still a heated topic in our country and when asked the question of do you think that women have equal rights to men today. My answer would to this question would be under law, yes women have all the equal rights that men do. However in society today a few people still think that women are unequal and should be payed less. The centerpoint for my argument is the most topical issue in women's rights, the debate of income inequality in today's world. Now a recent report that
Women have virtually the same rights as men. However, the fault needing to be recognized in today’s society is the way that women are treated. Even in simple areas, such as jobs, women are put on the back burner. A woman is able to become a CEO of a company, nonetheless, she will struggle twice as hard as a man would. Even as an employee, women are statistically paid less than men are.
This past October, my legal studies professor informed me of a Women’s Rights presentation occurring in the School of Arts and Sciences building. I felt this was a perfect moment to combine my legal studies and social justice interests with my Core Science class. The presentation consisted of about a 90-minute documentary followed by a roughly 45-minute discussion between 15 students, two professors, and two women who are women’s rights activists. During this discussion, we talked about various issues such as income disparities between men and women, why this discrimination is happening in the workplace, and future of the women’s rights movement.
In the 1800s women were looked upon as second-class citizens, depriving them the right to vote, run for office, to become educated or even to have any type of profession. After women were married they were not allowed to own their own property, wages/income, or sign contracts. After decades of intense political activities and rallies women were granted the right to vote in the year 1920. Women decided to take a stand as one and fight for equality amongst men and women, even if it meant dying for women in the future to one day cast a vote or run in the election.
For as long as most can remember, women have never been viewed as equal to men. Women have fought for many rights including the right to vote, run for office, and for everyday things such as equal pay, the right to job listings, getting an education, and even having a credit card in their own name.
Women have always believed that they do not have the same rights as men because they do not get paid enough. Specifically, Madeleine M. Kunin claims that women have more rights than before. Although women do not get paid the same as men, their situation has improved because they have fought for their rights and they are able to do the same jobs as men. Although women have more rights than before they are still paid less than men. This has always been an issue that has not changed.
Women’s suffrage has stretched from the 1800’s to present day, as women have struggled to have the same civil and constitutional rights as men in politics and be appreciated as equals in the workforce. Groups of women known as suffragists questioned the customary views of women’s roles. Eventually our nation has evolved and realized that male-controlled societies suppress women’s rights. From the beginning steps taken in 1850 to 2013 with women earning combat roles in the military, women’s roles to society, their work ethic, and progressively public aptitude, as a whole should be allowed the right to vote, help the country grow economically, politically, and have the overall rights equal to those of men.
People were not only discriminated due to their race but some of their gender, which affected their political rights in a multitude of ways. To illustrate, one of the Colonies most unspoken laws, dating from Ancient Greece to 1920, is that women have no right to vote and that only the gentry could contribute in political matters according to the Governor. Additionally, a law from Great Britain in stated that if a landowning woman is to marry, she must sign a document stating she is giving her property to the husband. However, in the case of Anne Cart, a wealthy indigo farmer who was engaged, she testified to a jury that the land was worth more under her ownership and she won the right to own it. Another example is that 97% of court cases involving dark magic is directed towards women accused of witchcraft and found that 78% of the women are convicted and hung. This shows that in the 16th century, people thought women were generally inferior to men and treated them as such politically.
Since the middle of the nineteenth century, women in America have been striving to obtain rights equal to that of men. Before that time, women were viewed as physically, as well as mentally, inferior to men. Men had the upper hand, in all walks of life, including the workplace and at home. Obtaining equality among men has proven to be a difficult uphill battle for women, but, by the mid-1800 's, women began to see the fruits of their labors. It all began on July 19, 1848 when Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Jane Hunt, Martha Coffin Wright, Lucretia Mott and Mary Ann McClintock organized a convention in Seneca Falls, New York. This convention marked the first organized women 's movement in the United States of America. At the time, the rights of
The United States should give women more rights. It is unfair on how men get paid more than women when they're both working the same job. Those women are working as hard as the men, but they still don't get paid the same amount. Women go to school,
As the world progresses, so does gender equality. There has been a debate for a long time about whether women should be getting paid the same wage as men if they have the same job and same credentials. All men and women are to be looked at as equal, whether it be in the workforce, at home, or hourly or salary pay. Men should have higher pay because men are supposed to provide for their family and they need the hours. Women have always been known to stay at home and do the “stay-at-home” jobs, but as time progresses they have had a stronger influence in the world as they are doing more jobs that are “fit” for men. Although gender equality has played a big role in society, it usually seems to go unnoticed.
In the early 1900s, it was very uncommon for women to have access to contraceptives or health education. Then one day, a doctor and a nurse tended to a women at home who was suffering from having an abortion. Just like many women in the U.S. at this time, she was wanting to learn how to prevent pregnancies so she did not have to have any more abortions. As the doctor and nurse left this woman 's house, the women begged the doctor to teach her how she could prevent her own pregnancies. To the nurses disbelief the doctor would not give the woman one once of information. This is the moment where health education would change forever. This moment released the beginning of the fight to make contraceptives
In the United States, there are many human equal rights for women, but they are insufficient to create equality. Despite of many equality rules gender inequality still exists and that’s the fact. In history, women were not allowed to study or work. In modern world women are achieving educational goals and also working. Does that mean women are getting equal treatments? The answer is no, women are not treated as equals as men. The graduation rates for women are higher than men, but in workplaces you can not see that ratio. Today, women are working in almost every field and defining their selves very well, but they are not getting equal payment and recognition as men. Even in society women are expected to take care of
Should Men and Women be equal. Men and women's rights have came a long way since 100 years ago. Women can join the Army, Navy, Seals and even the Marines. Women can even work full time but still don’t get enough money. 1.3 billion people in the world live in absolute poverty 70% of them are women. Think about how you don’t get the money you deserve, Think about you worked full time and you only got 7 dollars a day. In 1870 Men were granted the right to vote.
Female and male equality has been a topic of conversation dating back to the mid to late 1800’s. Women have been fighting for their right to vote, to obtain birth control and the right to equal employment opportunities and wages. Even though now women have the right to vote and are now able to not only obtain birth control but also a safe and legal abortion women are still fighting for fair wages and employment. Women are not only wanted to be seen as equals in the workplace and wages, but also in the household.
Women in Jesus’s time were treated very poorly and were limited to many things they could do. Women always either had to be with their father or husband and were basically treated as slaves. Also, women were inferior to men during this time period and women didn 't even have the right to testify in courts. A wife could never divorce her husband. However, a husband could divorce their wife for any reason, and he would not have to pay any money to take care of her. The father or husband would have to be a male escort in order for women to walk around in public places. Women weren 't allowed to speak unless they were spoken too and had very little rights or say in anything at the time. Women were treated basicly like slaves and not how a person should be ever be treated.
