Controversy is a disagreement that usually occurs when one or both sides has a strong disagreement towards another sides opinion. Common controversial topics can range from issues such as abortion to issues such as marriage equality; whichever the case, we encounter controversial discussions daily. One topic that I tend to encounter more so than others is the discussion regarding animal experimentation. I live as a vegetarian, a lifestyle I have been living for approximately 2 years, and due to this identity I tend to find myself surrounded by other friends who live the vegetarianism or veganism lifestyle. Most of our conversation topics revolve around animal rights and where people should “draw the line” so to speak, in our society. So, for …show more content…
The experimentation on animals is not something that people think concern them and so they turn a blind eye to the harm that is being done. However, based on personal experience, once people are enlightened on the practices of companies they like to dismiss the notion by saying something along the line of, “How else will products be made? We can’t test on humans, that is unethical”. In creating my Controversial Definition paper, I wish to cover how unethical these practices are towards animals while also covering the alternatives that companies can begin to use in place of animal experimentation. In order to provide information for both sides of the discussion I first plan on using basic research methods so that I can educate myself before educating others. Once I have an understanding of the morals and ethics, or rather lack thereof, behind animal experimentation I will be able to expand on the information so that my audience can comprehend the issue at hand. Secondly, I plan on using applied research in order to demonstrate to my audience the alternative methods out there that allow companies to stop animal experimentation while also providing safe products for
“Animal Experimentation” The concept of animal testing has grown to be very controversial. The thought of experimenting on animals results in different emotions. Many people would argue that experimenting on animals is brutal and others would argue otherwise. An article by the title of “Point: Animal Testing-
Topic: The harmful testing of products on animals. Specific Purpose: I aim to persuade my audience to stop supporting companies that bring harm to animals by testing new products on them. Thesis Statement: Experimenting with new products on animals is cruel, and it will continue unless we do something about it. Introduction: I. Gaining and maintaining favorable attention: Have you ever thought about how many of the products you buy are tested on animals. Have you ever thought about the pain these animals go through just to see if a new product is safe or not.
“Studies published in prestigious medical journals have shown time and again that animal experimenters are often wasting lives—both animal and human—and precious resources by trying to infect animals with diseases that they would never normally contract (Animal Rights).” This upsetting fact could be prevented if laws were passed to end animal testing. Animal experimentation should be made illegal because innocent animals are being harmed and or killed daily, medicines do not have the same effect on animals as they do people, and animal experimentation is expensive.
“Lots of people talk to animals…Not very many listen, though…That’s the problem”(Ben Hoffman). The controversy of animal testing is phenomenal; it always has been. I remember dissecting animals throughout my years of school in the "name of science". It was only until recently that I started questioning the government 's methods to teach us. We dissected a dog shark in my oceanography class last year. There had to been at least 80 dead sharks in about four different buckets; that was when it crossed the line. I understood a lamb eye or something, but breeding sharks in captivity just so they can be killed? Animal testing is wrong in every way to me.
The issue, which is also a prominent controversial issue in the country, is animal testing.
The animal experimentation is very difficult issue with a lot of people feeling very strongly of it, we are use the animals for the experimentation in different way, one of most big problem is for test the cosmetics, the images of animals with things put in their eyes for so we are able to look a bit better make many people very angry. Is it necessary?
are not able to give consent for this as would be required of a human. Other
Animal testing has become a controversial issue among many people in the world today. Some of these people involved in this controversial debate believe that animal testing is unethical and should be replaced by other methods. The other group of people in this debate believe that animal testing is necessary in order to research new products that cannot be tested on humans. Traditional animal testing forces animals to undergo numerous experiments for different forms of research. Medical, cosmetic, and many other types of research experiments use animals to provide the results on how the new product may affect humans. There are many people that support the use of alternative methods to animal research and then
For thousands of years animals have been used as research subjects, but with the advancement of science and society, animal experimentation has morphed into a controversial bioethics topic. Animal experimentation is the use of animals in scientific research. This experimentation ranges from testing pharmaceuticals on rats to measuring the elasticity of tendons in rabbits to implanting mechanical devices in calves. And while the FDA has dozens of guidelines to keep animal testing as ethical as possible, a strong opposition to animal research (particularly mammalian research) still exists.
For many years, the topic of animal experimentation has been debated in the United States. Many people wonder should animals be experimented on? Animal testing has been used since at least 500 B.C. There have been people against it since the beginning. The Cruelty to animals act was the first animal protection law, put in place in 1876. Who are some people involved in fighting this issue? This can include dates, statistics, or names of important people who are involved in the issue. For some issues, this may also include relevant parts of the Constitution. I chose this issue because I know it is a huge issue, but I didn’t know much about it. I wanted to learn more about it so i could form my own opinion.
I’m writing to you because I strongly believe that animal experimentation should be limited. I’m not saying it should be illegal, because then companies wouldn’t be able to make any new products, but its should be limited on how gruesome it is for the animals. Companies are really taking advantage of using animals for their experiments, and that needs to be limited. Every single year, there are 100 million animals killed in experimentation. I get it, there are tons of rats and mice in the streets of big cities, and they really have no purpose, but that still doesn’t make it right. Imagine if it was a dog they were experimenting on (which some people do), that should be illegal, shouldn’t it? Domestic animal abuse is illegal, because its animals
Throughout history, animal experimentation has played an important role in leading to new discoveries and human benefit. However, what many people tend to forget are the great numbers of animal subjects that have suffered serious harm during the process of experimentation. Many people are believed to be ignorant or misunderstand the nature of the lives that animals actually live, and are unable to understand the actual laboratory procedures and techniques. Other than the philosophical questions that arise, ethical (moral) questions are the main reason why many animal right activists want it banned in every country. Activists feel that to this day, there should be no good reason why any living thing should be subjected to this cruel punishment and unwanted torture just for serving another being’s needs.
Does everyone remember their very first animal? Remember the puppy’s sweet and perfect eyes, the kitten’s soft and comforting “meow”, or perhaps even a hamster and their playful and enthusiastic personality? These loving, innocent, precious animals are used daily on animal experimentation. With each and every chemical-related product produced, experimentation is required before being released into stores; unfortunately, these tests are typically performed on blameless animals. However, just because testing of a particular product on an animal results positive, does that undoubtedly mean the results will be equivalent for humans? For instance, cigarette smoking was once considered “safe” because types of cancer associated with smoking are
The development of new treatments including medicines are distinguished for being time consuming, costly and complex. However, this timely manner is beneficial for society as it meant to provide an efficient and safe medication. Concerns regarding when animal studies are necessary compared to clinical trials has been a debatable topic among society. For over a decade, animal research has served as a fundamental component in many medical findings. Mousses are commonly used in laboratories, as we as humans share nearly 95% of our genes, making them a useful and efficient model for the assistance of discovering medications used today (Grant, 2017). Bench studies should continue to be practiced by researchers as
The controversy behind animals as research subjects is mainly one of morals and the ethical treatment of said animals. Many people believe we should use them in this way, so we aren 't actually harming people in the pursuit for better things for humans. Though animal testing was a viable resource for many years, it has proven to be extremely controversial and unethical, therefor the use of animals as research subjects should be outlawed.
