The death penalty has been a controversial topic for years, being a maximum punishment, giving to a person committing a horrible crime no choice but death. Though death penalty does have a small impact in the way, people think after committing a crime. It does not make a criminal pay their sentence because they executed them and the victim’s family are abandon without justice. Also, innocent people are accused of crimes not committed and punished with death penalty without going more in-depth into their case. It's even an expensive cost to the government affecting taxpayers raising taxes to pay the penalty.

It is because attorneys are limited with resources and follow the information they have which cannot be enough. As Arthur MacDonald states in, Death Penalty and Homicide, “There are thousands of innocent persons murdered in the United States every year”(91). Additionally, innocent people accuse might sometimes be afraid to speak up and avoid getting more charges for trying to defend themselves. The saddest part about this is that innocent people are later proven innocence right after the execution has occurred. After this, they cannot do anything about it such as helping the family or afford them help which ends up being unfair and injustice. Furthermore, execution is very expensive than imprisoning a criminal for life in prison which can affect taxpayer because the government takes the money to use it for the death penalty. The expenses are on the lawyer's fees, extended trials, judicial proceedings and expert witnesses which the cost ends up being high. But the prices of having a criminal in jail for life can be more affordable for the government without touching the money from taxpayers. As
