I have the courage to grow into the first person in my family in generations to graduate from a four-year college. My dad never went to college; he enlisted into the military. My mom went to a two-year college. By the time I graduate both of my parents will be retired, leaving me at a loss of financial support for my college education. With my college education currently being undecided, I will decide a major that will help other people and travel around the world while making myself and others happy. I love learning, exploring and growing as a person. Having a college education will impact both my parents, my family when I have one, and future generations. I want to make a change in this world and having a college education will help me
I wish to continue my education at the University of Iowa State, majoring in computer engineering. I have always been interested in technology and all of the great ways it can globalize the world. Without this technology then people would not have the opportunity to connect with their love ones abroad. In my situation, the family that I have that are still in South Sudan, who were not able to make it to the United States.
Going to college has always been a dream of mines that I will turn into reality. I have always wanted to further my education beyond high school. A college degree is required for the career I want to pursue. I plan to study Sociology to become a Social Worker, because I truly value and am passionate about helping people. Social workers engage and discuss with clients about the things going on in their lives and try their best to provide their clients with helpful advice to make things better for them. As an aspiring social worker, I want to work with
My future education goal is to major in Communication Sciences and Disorders and attend graduate school to become a Speech Language Pathologist. I also plan to travel throughout college and learn more about different cultures. Through the various short term abroad mission trips and local volunteering at the Place of Hope, I have discovered that education happens inside and outside of a classroom. Throughout my time in college, I hope to study abroad and continue to learn more about other cultures and the world that is around me. I believe that those who travel have a better grasp about what goes on in our world. By being more aware about the world, it creates a more grateful attitude and the desire for equality.
When I was 5 my life changed completely. My sister and I were abandoned by our mother and father. I was then raised by my aunt and uncle along with my grandparents. I was taken in and loved as if I was their own. I want to show them and myself that no matter what happens in life that I can succeed and accomplish anything I set my mind to. Therefore, I am pursuing an Associates degree and the first generation in my family to go to college first generation in my family to go to college.
College is an idea that many people talk about, but is college really meant for everyone?
Everyone in my family has attended college and has done something with their lives and I plan on continuing the cycle. In the fall of 2017 I will be attending Sam Houston State University. My major will be kinesiology because sports has always been a part of my life and I couldn’t imagine myself going through life without doing something related to sports.
Ultimately, my dedication and drive toward earning a dual degree in college will guide me toward my life goals. First, I plan on finding a job as a marketing analyst or chemist. This will allow me to earn a stable salary, in which will enable me to help my mother support my younger siblings.
When I graduate high school I plan on attending UW Oshkosh and getting a degree in medical technology. With this degree I will be able to help the people in my community who are stuck in hospitals and get them on the path to recovery. Sitting in a lab, looking through a microscope all day may not seem like an exciting job, but it will allow me to give people second chances at life. It will not only enable me to help the people who are sick but their families as well. By helping the doctors diagnose different diseases, I will be able to save people's loved ones and allow their family to make more memories with them. I will be able to save people from the grief of losing a family member and give them hope for the future. With a degree in medical
The major that I would like to peruse is Pre-Medicine. To me Pre Medicine is more than just about having a huge salary, it’s about helping people. I do it every day and enjoy every second of it, but what actually brought me to this decision was my own health condition. I got diagnosed and have been treated for scoliosis and GAD when I was 16 years old.
My current focus is entering the Respiratory Care program at Northeast Iowa Community College. A college degree will assist in ensuring that one day I can be an adult capable of facing adversity, capable of giving back to the community, and capable of being an example to others as my parents are to me. I do not expect the college experience to miraculously transform me into a knowledgeable adult. However, I am relying on it to help me grow, mature and learn.
The major I intend on pursuing is Elementary Education. Education has always been a interest of mine that started in Kindergarten. Throughout my years in school I have had a fascination with learning. I loved exploring new subjects and growing my understanding of the world. My eagerness to learn has motivated me to strive in school. As a teacher I will be able to give back to my community and hopefully make a difference in the lives of students. I can inspire children to take initiative of their learning on a day to day basis. Through teaching I have the ability to work with a specific group of children daily, getting to know their interests, strengths, weaknesses, personalities, and learning styles.
The degree I am pursuing will contribute to my future career for my family and I to have a stable future in life. It will enhance the needs of the adult population who need help mentally and physically in their daily activities. There are many programs out there, but all have a unique way to serve a percentage of society.
I have many personal goals that I hope to accomplish during and after my college education experience. One of my main goals is to carry the community service projects I have been participating in to college. I would love to work with cancer patients, tutor children at a local school, teach a Sunday School class at a local church, work with Habitat for Humanity, and countless other activities. I know that I probably will not have time to accomplish all the goals that I have for college, but I know I can conquer some of them, and I will.
I am in college because I want to continue my education and become something but I'm also here because that's something my parents wanted me to do because they never went to college. I plan to get my associates degree in the culinary field because I love to cook and I love to eat as well, I took cooking classes in high school and I was in a program where we made something for a whole week then change stations the next week and they taught us knife skills and safety, I loved going everyday and I knew that's what I wanted to do when I got older.
“About 19.9 million students were enrolled in college and universities in 2013, compared to about 13.5 million in 1990, about 7.9 million in 1970, and about 2.7 million in 1949” (After Recent Upswing, College Enrollment Declines, Census Bureau Reports). A college education after graduating high school is extremely crucial to one’s life because it determines their future. The discussion about whether a college education is worth it or not has dated back to the time when the colonists came to America from Europe. The colonists founded “New College”, which was later later renamed to Harvard University. Colonial America produced nine colleges that still prevail to this day and are some of the most prestigious colleges in America. Harvard University, College of William and Mary, Yale University, Princeton University, Columbia University, Brown University, Dartmouth College, Rutgers University, and University of Pennsylvania are the nine main colleges that colonial America has composed. With about 19.9 million United States college students in 2013, and average student debt over $26,500, the discourse about the importance about a college education still continues to this day.
