I have always conceived the court in action is a solemn and awe-inspiring event. Before I took a law course, I was totally unfamiliar with the judicial system in the United States. Under the requirement of the court-experience-paper assignment and my intellectual curiosity, I went to King County Superior Court with excitement on February 2nd, 2016. To be honest, the court in the United States does surprise me that is different from Chinese court.
Although it was around 8’o clock in the early morning, a group of people was already waiting in line to go through security, which is the first process to enter the court. I was curious about everything in the court, so when I was in the queue, I started to observe a different kind of people. Some

“Court is not as inaccessible as I imagined?” I thought. With the help of the clerk, I successfully found the courtroom and prepare to hear the criminal case.
When entering the courtroom, I was astonished by its size, which was smaller than what I imagine. I thought it would be as big as three basketball courts. I was also impressed by the furnishing. In the front of the room was a horseshoe-shaped table and raised a few steps higher than the floor. A big square table faced the outside of the raised table with the jury box on the left. I chose a seat relatively far back because the first line of the gallery was reserved for the staff. As my friend and I had no clue about how each seating was decided, so we asked the man who sat in front of us, who was wearing a suit, and looked like a knowledgeable person. He patiently explained all the seating to us and introduced the case to us simply. In our understanding, the judge sat on the top, who represents the supreme power. In front of the judge sat the court clerks, who review the evidence. The jury is made up of twelve jurors, who sat on the left “box” of the judge. The defendant and her attorney sat in front of the judging table with their back towards the audience. The detective and the prosecutor sat on the right of the defendant, sharing the same table. I am impressed with the rigid structure of the legal system where the different roles have predetermined seats.
My friends and I arrived twenty
We attended the ACT Magistrates Court on 6th October 2017. We observed a criminal case.
There are many parts of the courtroom and the process of convicting a criminal. The courtroom work group has a major role in convicting and finalizing a case. In the courtroom work group, there are three groups of people that hold the entire courtroom together. Without the work group, the courtroom would not flow, and coming to a conclusion to the case would not be as easy. The work group is made up of the Judge, the Defense Counsel and the Prosecution. They work together to reach a result, in the case by staying in contact on a daily basis. There are many roles in the work group, and if they are not all followed through with then the results could be different than what they should be. In this paper, we will
I observed court operations at the Plantation Key Government Center in Tavernier, Florida twice: on October 7th and November 4th. I observed Chief Circuit Judge Carlos Garcia in courtroom A. The courthouse is located in the 16th Judicial Circuit of Florida and it’s a state trial court with general jurisdiction. The first visit was cut short, in part because it was a lighter criminal day than planned, but also I was flabbergasted by the lack of professionalism that was present in this courtroom. I’m not sure if it’s a “court in Paradise” problem, or something that is observed at other courtrooms, however, I’m disappointed in what I saw. Lack of professionalism was evident during both visits from the actors and their actions in the courtroom.
It was a gloomy Tuesday morning in Camden on March 18, 2014. Spring break had just began and the free time to do the court observation. The Superior Court of New Jersey had begun a civil action court case that was fairly controversial over how to distribute ones pension to their spouse when filing a divorce. When arriving upon the court house, the whole entire environment surrounding the court was very authoritarian. It seems that the court rooms and such are always located where most of the town’s governing takes place, whether it is just a municipal court, or the superior court just as this one. Before arriving, the presumption was that the court house would like every other court house, big building with large marble stone pillars in
My understanding of the court system has changed almost weekly from the beginning of my semester. I do understand things that I never thought I would’ve have known or even cared about in the least. The book Courtroom 302 has brought an even different side of thinking into this. The book goes into detail about the criminal court in Chicago. He watches all of the actions and different trials that come and go in the courtroom 302. He presents many different cases throughout the book which gives more insight then just a single case.
The courtroom is a vital part of the criminal justice system, and a major role in the judicial branch of our government. In the courtroom there are specified roles given to certain people that allow them to to actively engage in the system and get it to work efficiently and properly so that justice is served. The major roles of the courtroom work group are: Police officer, prosecutor, defense attorney, judge, defendant, victim, bailiff, court reporter, and the jury. In this essay I will describe in depth the responsibilities of each of these important courtroom characters.
During this documentary, the viewers get an inside look at how criminal proceedings work. In the courtroom, the most important players are the prosecution, defense, and judge. The judge is in the room to make sure the proceeding runs smoothly and to settle any arguments that arise. The prosecution is there to accuse the defendant for whatever crime he or she has been convicted of. The defense is there to defend the person being convicted of the crime. There is also a bailiff who is there to oversee the court and make sure everyone there is safe. The bailiff will bring evidence form the defense or prosecution to the judge, as nobody is to approach the bench without the judge calling attorneys to the
The book Courtroom 302, written by Steve Bogira in 2005, is about the criminal courts in Chicago, IL. Steve Bogira graduated from Northwestern University, and is an excellent reporter for the Chicago Review. Courtroom 302 is story told mainly from through Steve Bogira’s observations. Bogira observes a courtroom (Courtroom 302), and basically the entire justice system process from beginning to end. The courtroom that Bogira observes is in the control of Judge Daniel Locallo. Judge Locallo helps give Bogira an all access view, plus vital personal thoughts and feelings about issues and events that he has dealt with; and Bogira has observed. Judge Locallo is not the only person that expresses personal information. Many employees of the
The criminal trial process is an interesting process that takes place in Courtrooms all across the United States and throughout the globe. This study intends to set out the various steps in the criminal trial process in the American justice system. A trial is described as a "legal forum for resolving individual disputes, and in the case of a criminal charge, it is a means for establishing whether an accused person is legally guilty of an offense. The trial process varies with respect to whether the matter at issue is civil in nature or criminal. In either case, a jury acts as a fact-finding body for the court in assessing information and evidence that is presented by the respective parties in a case. A judge presides over the court and addresses all the legal issues that arise during the trial. A judge also instructs the jury how to apply the facts to the laws that will govern in a given case." I was still filled with anticipation and was quite surprised at the differences between my first and second experience. I was formally dressed and did not really blend in with anyone else sitting in the courtroom. The attorneys seemed to come and go as they pleased, with no deference or respect for the proceedings in session.
The room in which the men are sitting and debating the case has a table with each of the men sitting around it. Jury member number one, who sits at the head of the
On observing the District Court a number of distinctions from the Local Courts were immediately made apparent. Without going in to detail about the actual structure of the courts, they seemed to fit more closely with the traditional schema of a typical courtroom. In particular the larger courtrooms with more facilities combined with the barristers and magistrates wearing their wig and robes seemed to instantly uphold the ideology of justice. It is interesting to note how appearances can automatically provide an impression that justice will be upheld. The
In the american court room there are several people involved. Some of the most important and lawful figures include: the judge, who is the main authority and the one responsible for justice. The prosecuting attorney, responsible for presenting the case against the defendant. The defense counsel, who is in
That same day I headed down to the magistrate court I had been here before. This court is more of assembly line justice sine each case is probably like 5 minutes long. The judges name was locatell. The first case I heard was a male he was being charged with reckless driving. The judge then tells him that is a 5 day minimum in jail. At this point u enter a plea he entedred a not guilty plead. After he please there is a bench trail and there will be a posector and see what you sentence will be and the cop that issued the ticket will be there so that both stories can be heard. What I also noticed at this court is that you don’t have to be dressed up you can show up like you just rolled out of bed.
So I went to the courtroom on Monday, I was planning to go to the criminal court but when I arrived I the GPS guided me to the civil court so I and two interpreter but I am so impress interpreter (Hannah) know everything I follow her where going to court criminal when I got there we have to go through the security and the building and I think because its not new and in a great condition like the civil court so when I got in I and interpreter went to the information desk get information about the court case that’s on, after that I went to a court room on the two floor department 26, the court room look same very different than my imagination I thought the court looks very old fashion with those European style decoration and uncomfortable seat like those in the church, but the court room I went to was actually very modern and the seat are soft not like the church style wooden seat, the court room was quite small I the it can only fit around few people according to my observation, so the judge sat at front and the jury is on the left and side and it has a small desk right next to the entrance for the police officer in the court and the judge ‘s seat and desk is high than any other seat and desk in the room. I and Interpreter sit back near door and I want thank to them note for me, I don 't understand court and lawyer was so fast speak but hard for me write notes then two interpreter willing notes share for me.
