In the poem, ¨The Cremation of Sam McGee¨, the Speaker promises to cremate his friend’s body when he dies in the North. In my second story, Michael Phelps had a dream to become a champion swimmer. In the book, ¨The Call of the Wild¨, Buck is desperate to survive in the Klondike times with tough weather and bad people and dogs. However, all three were pursuing to succeed in their goal they made because they saw something or said something that meant a lot to them. In “The Cremation of Sam McGee”, the speaker promises to his friend that he would cremate his body when he dies. For example, “So I want you to swear that, foul or fair, you’ll cremate my last remains”(Service line 24). What drove him to pursue his goal is that he made a promise to his friend that he would not fail.”I swore I would not fail”, “I burrowed a hole in the glowing coal, and I stuffed in Sam McGee”(Service line 25 and 45). Michael Phelps wanted to face his fear and put his head under water and learn to swim. The narrator states, “Phelps undertook a mission since his childhood to become a champion swimmer”(Narrator para. 3), “Back then, he was a little nervous about putting his head underwater”(Narrator para. 2).
