What is CrossFit? According to the founder and CEO, Glassman defines CrossFit as:
CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. These are the core movements of life. They move the largest loads the longest distances, so they are ideal for maximizing the amount of work done in the shortest time. In spite of the fact that many don’t think weightlifting correlates with CrossFit, Tia-Clair Toomey proves otherwise. Toomey not only has gone to the CrossFit games, but the Summer Olympics in Rio. In the article Aussie CrossFit Star in Rio Weightlifting, Toomey stated that CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting have a mutual connection towards each other. This is important because people think that the two sports cannot relate, but they do. It also shows that anyone can start CrossFit. Three years ago, Toomey started CrossFit and it shows how far one can go when they believe in what they do. Inside the Cult of CrossFit is an article about why Crossfit is so popular yet so controversial at this time. The appeal of CrossFit is that the workouts are short, intense, and always different. The author tried CrossFit for a month and wrote about his experience. His experience included what you would find in a typical box: blaring rock/edm music, barbells clanking, and fellow CrossFitters struggling to finish the WOD. The article was extremely real and it was very easy to relate to. For example, Stoddard recalls his experience as he tried the sport out. Stoddard goes on to write about the disadvantages as well, which included rhabdomyolysis (CrossFitters call rhabdomyolysis Uncle Rhabdo). Uncle Rhabdo is controversial topic in the CrossFit industry as well as often talked about. Even WebMD thinks that it is a big issue. WebMD states
