In the end of Part I, Hanna’s mysterious departure shatters Michael emotionally. In order to cope, Michael immerses himself in the war trials for distraction and cultivates an air of arrogant superiority in embracing his generation’s passion to cast blame on the previous generation. Considering himself to be a radical explorer of the past, Michael believes it is his generation’s responsibility to redeem German society from its past by “open[ing] the windows and let[ting] in the air.” (91) However, Michael’s ease at condemning the first generation is both superficial and naive.
A theme in The Crucible is that a society ruled by theocracy and status based on religion is bound to fall apart. Salem 's strict adherence to the Christian shurch is evident in everything the citizens do. They use measures of a person 's knowledge and adherence to the religion as a means of judging their character and also their status in society. They believe "God [was] provoked so grandly by such a petty cause" (121), which is why the "jails are packed" (121). If the citizen did anything to make God angry, they were punished. This is why the judges were so relentless and naïve in putting the accused women to trial and convicting them. They believed "the law, based upon the Bible, and the Bible, writ by the Almighty God,
Scene 4 begins at night with Laura opening the door to find a drunken Tom standing with a match in his hand, searching for his key. Tom had just returned from the movies which was very prolonged that night, causing Tom to have to stay out so late. As Tom was entering the house, he was loudly telling Laura about the magician that performed on the big stage show and how marvelous his tricks were. As Tom was putting himself to bed, he told Laura of how he wished he could do the same trick as the magician in which he had escaped a coffin without removing one single nail. A few hours later, it was morning and Amanda started shouting her routinely “Rise an’ Shines” throughout the house. Tom, whom was still not on speaking terms with Amanda, angrily

During Act 2, many occurrences happened. One in particular took my attention with a bit more force than some of the other content. According to the text, “… But not Sarah Good. For Sarah Good confessed, y’see. I hear a voice, a screamin’ voice, and it were my voice-and at all at once I remembered everything she done to me” (Miller 60)! This quote shows that this woman, Sarah Good, did something to Mary Warren that made her traumatized and afraid. According to the text, “… ‘Sarah Good,’ says he, ‘what curse did you mumble that this girl must fall sick after turning you away’” (Miller 61)? This quote demonstrates the acts Sarah did to Mary. I connected to this scene by remembering an old show that recently aired called Merlin.

I was woken by the beautiful sounds of nature. I look around wondering where I am. Nothing is familiar to me except for the circle of stones. The last things I can remember are hiking through the woods, and running into the circle full of stones. I was curious and walked into the circle while touching the biggest rock. I felt a huge burst of power tear through me. I saw an explosion of light before I blacked out. I now noticed two girls walking up to me. They looked me over head to toe and got this nervous look on their face. I kindly asked them, “Can you please tell me where I am?” The girls responded, “Salem, Massachusetts.” I start to panic and wonder to myself, “how did I get here, why am I here, and what is the date?” I question the girls,
