The Crucifixion With The Virgin and St. John the Evangelist by Rogier van der Weyden, is a painting that includes the characters: Jesus, Virgin Mary and St. John. It includes two panels that relate to each other. The left panel illustrates Mary, as if falling with grief, has her hands together, and her legs bent like they have given up on her, and her body leaning backwards. St.John is also in the same panel, leaning forwards to help support Mary but his face seems distracted by the crucifixion of Jesus in the right panel.Jesus is crucified on a cross in front of a red cloth hanging over a grey stone wall. The cross is mounted on top of a mossy rocky hill accompanied by a skull and a single long bone.
The two panels are showing one scene connected
Imagine seeing the crucifiction of Christ. Seeing that happen would change everyone’s view of the world. Christ’s crucifiction affected many people, including His mother, Mary. Juan de Juanes, the artist, painted this scene realistically. This painting was made with oil paints on panel with long flowing strokes, which seemed to make it come to life. Juan de Juanes depicts many aspects in this painting such as historical significance, colors, and subject matter.
The ominous figure in the centre of the foreground - Jesus Christ hanging lifeless on the cross, in Luca di Tommè’s ‘The Crucifixion’, primarily catches the eye. The symmetrical arrangement of lamenting figures around the cross, as well as the gilded background, highlight him as the focal point of this artwork.
In addiction, in many cases when people human right’s is denied they use law as a tool to hold the perpetuators accountable and bring up changes. This is an issue addressed in the article “The Flint Disaster: Why doesn’t black health matter. The lead-poising disaster in Flint is not only a health public issue but it is also practice of discrimination in a community that its predominately black. While there are thousands of people including young children, whose health conditions are worsening because of the lead-poising they get from the water they drink everyday there has been little done to fix this problem. Meanwhile, because this is happening in a black community there less recognition put into the problem. The Flint water crisis is
The artwork I have chosen from the book was the painting by Rogier van der Wayden called the Crucifixion with the Virgin and St. John the evangelist (c. 1400-1464). The work is done with oil painting on wooden oak panels. This painting is very meaningful and descriptive, while also telling a story. It portrays a very complex image of the crucifixion of Jesus Crist on the cross, and his mother, Virgin Mary and disciple John suffering his loss. This painting is divided into two panels, dividing the two scenes. I believe this type of painting would be presented in a church or museum setting, because of the bright and bold coloring. This work overall is resembling a very important time in history, and also has a lot more deep and hidden analysis
“Virgin and Child,” “Main Street U.S.A.,” “The Piano Player,” “The Tree of Life,” and “Sophia’s Mercurial Waters,” and all represent religious icons that are Christ or illustrate young girls taking on the role of the Virgin Mary. Out of these six pieces, the “Main Street U.S.A.” displays the most provocative imagery using the religious icons. A bleeding, beaten and crucified Jesus is riding a 1950s bicycle while a young girl sits towards the front of the painting waving the American flag at him. This painting displays a bit of dark humor, and how the world turns religious symbols and people into humorous and sellable icons. The image of Christ after the crucifixion is one that is seen in the much religious artwork.
Rogier Van Der Weyden was a highly successful Flemish painter of his time and one of the most influential painter in history. Weyden was primarily an expressionist artist, as he conveyed emotions in his paintings. The “Descent from the Cross” focuses on the emotions of Christ's followers as they lower his body from the Cross. “There you could see those face come alive and breathe which he wanted to show as living, and likewise the deceased as dead” (Janson, p.485). The image is very realistic, Weyden captured the group's emotion realistically. It is intensified by the Virgin Mary's swoon depicting grief and compassion. Weyden used an empty background to focus more on the figures' expressions while bringing them to life.
Coco follows Miguel Rivera’s journey to becoming a musician. Miguel, a young boy, comes from a family of shoemakers that started with his great-great-grandmother Imelda Rivera. The Rivera family hates music as Imelda’s husband left her to pursue music. However, Miguel loves music which creates a rift between him and his family. He idolizes Ernesto De La Cruz the world’s most popular musician that came from his home town.
Crucifixion, the word makes one automatically think of Jesus Christ, and His death on the cross by to Romans. Even if there is no previous history of Christian faith, the image of Jesus on the cross is still prominent when thinking of crucifixion. Crucifixion, the definition given by Merriam-Webster dictionary is “the crucifying of Jesus.” Gerard Sloyan states, “Jesus of Nazareth in Galilee died on the cross at the hands of Roman justice, hundreds of thousands were subjected to the cruel punishment before and after Him. Yet one is hard-pressed to provide the name of another victim of crucifixion” (1). As infamous as Jesus’ crucifixion is, there are still some that doubt, not about the crucifixion of Jesus, but did he in fact die on the
It is a scene which is shown after Jesus was crucified, where his body has been removed from the cross and his friends and family mourn over his body. Many artists have focused this scene by just painting four people: the body of Christ, His mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea.
Benjamin Franking has once said “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” This quote is still stands to true no matter which side of the global you visit. Especially in businesses, not discounting what size is it, it is very important to plan ahead; set goals whether they are short term or long term, share the vision with its employees. All these are mentioned in business plan which states how business will operate, earn revenue, make profit along with where it will be moving towards in future, which should all support its mission statement and share same vision. On the other hand a business case is an opportunity or problem or a statement which starts out as a thought and turned into a document that sets the guidelines of how to make it into a reality. This paper defines what are differences between business case and business plan and how they are used in businesses. There are also few different examples of business cases are provided and described which the best one is and what makes it the best one compare to the others.
In terms of subject matter, both works are visual depictions of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In each painting, Christ is the central figure, surrounded by two groups of figures. On the left, a group of women that includes the Virgin Mary mourns over the dead body of Christ, while on the right is a group of soldiers and other lamenters. Both works feature a rocky landscape on which the figures are positioned. Encircling Christ are several angels whose gestures of lamentation echo those of the figures below. Highlighting the severity of each scene is the blood that pours from Jesus' wounds. The blood from his feet drips onto human bones that are embedded in the rocky terrain below. The skull serves as a "memento mori," or a reminder of death, an idea that has been repeated in several other depictions of Christ's crucifixion.
Through Matthew 27:11-66 it is evident that the governor Pontius Pilate plays a crucial role in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Scholars throughout history have provided support to see Pilate as positive, negative, or neutral role in the retelling of the crucifixion. Warren Carter is one of the many scholars who have taken note of Pilate’s role in history and within the source “Pontius Pilate. Portraits of a Roman Governor” Carter argues that Pilate is a negative character. He goes as far to claim that Pilate was one to actively seek conflict. While Carter argues that Pilate’s role is one of negativity, I would argue, that through a socio-culture view, that Pilate is not a negative figure, but an ambivalent one, due to his lack to enforce.
This piece is actually part of a mosaic of four pieces: Jesus on his way to Calvary while bearing the Cross, the Crucifixion, the Deposition of Christ, and the Entombment of Christ's body. It is also thought that there may be an additional two panels, but this has not been confirmed. One interesting to consider about this piece is that there are several things going on. We, of course, have Christ and the two thieves being crucified as the main focus of the piece, but
When I see the painting the shape is symmetric in the sense that there are the same amount of people on both sides of Jesus. The genre of this painting is Christian art. There are also four panels on both sides of the walls. In my opinion, the target audience that this painting was intended for are those who are believers of Christ. I feel this way because I think that this painting portrays the event that is talked about in the bible in the scripture Matthew 26, verse 21 where Jesus says “…"Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.". He then continues in verse 23 saying, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me”. In the painting, you can clearly see the man two seats away from his right reaching for the bowl at the same time as Christ. This event lead to the Holy Eucharist, also known as communion or the Lord’s Supper where Christ takes the bread which was to symbolize his body and wine which was to symbolize his
‘The Station of the Cross’ represents in many cultures by using different religious artworks. Source 2, 4 & 6 artworks represent Jesus’ suffering, yet in different ways. In Source 2, some unnamed Kenyan artists expressed their feelings by painting an African because the Kenyan people connected with Jesus’s experience more easily as it’s set in their culture. Furthermore, the image replicates the current suffering and the liveliness of the Turkana people in Africa. The artist transformed the viewer because he used traditional and authentic artistic techniques, such as style, colour, background, beliefs and cultural influences, to represent Jesus’s era. The artists mainly used primary colours, such as Red to represent the blood, which demonstrates the suffering of Jesus on the cross and to the Turkana people. The cross is made of wood and it appears to be leaning to one position. The body indicates the inequality that is occurring during his time and to the Turkana people. This artwork influences African culture
