The cruelty that is endured during animal testing The testing of animals in the cosmetic industry is purely inhumane, due to the fact that the benefit of testing does not prove to be as useful to offset the negative impact it has on animals, or offset the value of alternatives testing. “The thinking, feeling animals who are used in experiments are treated like nothing more than disposable laboratory equipment.” The scientist testing on animals should not treat animals like they are not living, conscious beings. The amount of suffering inflicted upon animals is inessential and repugnant for the selfish purpose of humans to increase their physical appearance; it is not a necessity for people to change their appearance through cosmetics. A law should be passed to outlaw the testing being done on animals for cosmetic purposes because there are alternatives that are more effective, cheaper, and humane then testing on animals. Animals are being treated without any compassion, scientist are treating them like they are some toys for the enjoyment of many individuals. One of the tests being carried out on animals is to force animals to inhale or eat cosmetic ingredients and if they do not die from the experiment then they are killed. Murder is against the law; it should not be excused simply because of the species being killed. Theoretically speaking if the role were to switch and it was humans that were tested, people would feel outraged and would be resentful towards
For decades, people have been using animals as the go-to method for testing scientific breakthroughs, but not only is this concept outdated, it is a cruel punishment inflicted on harmless creatures. Animal cruelty is a well-known problem around the United States that is a growing issue for debate. A study has shown that less than 2% of human illnesses are found in animals and over 98% are ineffective on animals (Peta2). “The Food and Drug Administration reports that 92 out of every 100 drugs that pass animal tests fail in humans” (PETA). Not only does animal testing hurt the animals, it is a waste of time. These are just some of the reasons why animal testing is pointless and should be banned. It is time that the United States recognizes animal testing as unacceptable because of its negative effects on both humans and animals: it is inhumane for many reasons, it proves to be very expensive and costly, and it’s pointless on many accounts.
Our country is home to a handful of cosmetic and skin care companies, many of which have become a part of our society’s daily routine. What many of us users may not know about these products is how they have been tested to their perfection. A large amount of companies choose to use an outdated and cruel way of testing product’s safety for in order to ensure perfection. Animals aid testing by being an empty slate for these cosmetic companies to test and improve their products. However, with other testing options available, why do companies continue to use this cruel and inhumane way of using animals for our selfish benefits? The first year that Animal Testing started was 1922. Now, 94 years
Animal testing is a very serious issue, considering the fact that it kills one-hundred thousand to two-hundred thousand animals each year (“About”). Many companies do not believe that animal testing is a serious problem and find that there are issues that are more important to worry about. The FDA believes that animal tests should be replaced with other tests that do not involve the use of animals because of the harm it causes them (“Animal Testing and Cosmetics”). Animals have emotions and feelings just as humans do, even though they are not always noticeable. Although animal-tested cosmetic products are very popular and used everyday by most people, animals are being hurt and killed daily to create them, therefore they should be banned
Throughout history, beginning as early as 500 BC, animals have been used to test out products that will later be utilized by humans (“Animal Testing” 4), what isn’t publicly discussed about is the way it will leave the animals after the process is done. Many innocent rabbits, monkeys, mice, and even popular pets such as dogs are harmed during the testing application of cosmetics, medicine, perfumes, and many other consumer products (Donaldson 2). Nevertheless, there are many people whom support the scandal because "it is a legal requirement to carry out animal testing to ensure they are safe and effective” for human benefit (Drayson). The overall question here is should it even be an authorized form of experimentation in the United States, or anywhere else? The fact of the matter is that there are alternatives to remove animals out of the equation for good (“Alternatives to Animal Testing” 1). They are cheaper, and less invasive than the maltreatment of the 26 million innocent animals that are subjected to the heartlessness of testing each year (“Animal Testing” 4). With all things considered, animal testing should be looked upon as animal cruelty due to the harsh effects from the many products tested on the innocent.
Testing on animals for medical reasons does not make it okay. It is unethical that these animals are taken from their habitats and placed in confined cages to be test subjects. The experiments these animals are subject to include poisoning, vivisection and toxicology. That can be considered lucky, compared to others who are burned, crippled, and neglected intentionally in the name of medicine. At this time, there is no form of testing considered illegal. They are used as subjects until death. After each experiment data is recorded and time is allowed for the animal to heal for the next experiment (Cruelty Free). If the test results are not too harsh the testing continues with more dosage or a different product. Animals that survive cannot be released back into nature because the subject could negatively affect the ecosystem; even those that survive all experiments are killed (Neavs). Those animals never got to experience life outside of a laboratory. The conditions these animals go through are morally wrong but are ignored because it is considered research. The use of animals in should immediately be stopped and outlawed because it not right to sentence a creature to death because they have no say-so.
Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. Every year, more than a hundred million animals- including mice, dogs, cats, rabbits, monkeys, and many more- are killed in the U.S. They are killed for laboratories in biology lessons, training, curiosity experiments, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. Experimenting on animals is a cruel way of testing products. Alternative testing methods now exist that can replace the need for animals. Most experiments involving animals are flawed, which wastes the lives of the animals. Also, animals suffer just like humans, so it is speciesism to experiment on animals while refraining from experimenting on humans.
Millions of animals are being unneedlessly tested on for cosmetics, even though there are plenty of alternatives available and most of the results are unreliable or not applicable to humans. Although the fight against animal testing has made huge progress recently, America has yet to stop this cruel practice and chooses to torture animals while other countries are making a stop to the testing (“Animal Testing 101”).
An increasing number of activists believe that animals have rights. However, this idea is somewhat controversial because animal activists look down upon the poor treatment of animals. They have a fear that animal testing is causing abuse and suffering to the helpless animals. Animal testing is a fairly serious matter because of all of the malfunctions and harm that leads to animal suffrage. The types of animals being used, such as rats, mice, rabbits, and chips are selected specifically for the test that is being performed. The outcomes of the test, depends on which animal is being tested and what it is being examined for. Common tests being used on animals include, medicine for human diseases, cosmetic products and their reactions, and students in training utilizing animals in educational laboratories.
There are nearly 26 million animals in the United States who are tested for commercial and scientific use. The AWA- Animal Welfare Act- provides limitations on which animals institutions and scientists can use. Since 1850, the AWA protected about 1,134,693 animals, but has left about 25 million other animals to be scientifically and commercially used. The fact that there are about 25 million animal species not protected by the AWA has many people against animal testing. The AWA sets minimum housing standards and also requires regular inspections by veterinarians. The animals not protected by the Animal Welfare Act are fish, birds, rats, and other cold blooded animals, which make up 95% of the animals being tested on; and because these
Imagine, holding a new born child, then finding out that they need to have a surgery to fix a lethal health issue. Without the advances in medical research due to animal testing the child wouldn’t survive. Animal testing is acceptable for medical purposes, however it shouldn’t be allowed for the use cosmetics because it is unnecessary, inhumane, and capitalistic.
Even though I think the movie is really persuasive and it is good to raise awareness for animal cruelty, I did not enjoy it. I found it very hard to watch the whole movie. However, overall, it is really informative, and I knew a lot after watching this movie. Before, I always thought that animal testing on drugs are necessary for our safety, but it is not. I also did not know what the animals have to go through everyday while being tested and observed. It was also heartbreaking to see how horrible the trainers train animals to perform on circuses. Before I thought the animals do trick, paint a painting, because they wanted to, but now I realized that they are being forced into doing all of these activities. I had always wanted to go to a circuses
As many of us know MAC is one of the most popular makeup brands used today. For so many years MAC has been a cruelty free company but that did not last long. MAC started testing on animals and everyone including celebrity Pamela Anderson was upset. Animal cruelty really effects the animals being tested. These animals can die during the experiment do to the chemicals they use. It performs test that are not necessary reason being, the makeup sometimes does not even launch. Also, it cost a lot of money just to have these animals in the laboratory. With this being said, they should not use animals for experiments to harm them or think that it is okay to let them go on with their lives after the harm.
Lab experimentation is a huge issue in many animal abuse cases. Testing cosmetics on animals should be illegal due to the harmful effects it causes to the animal. Kara Rogers, who holds a Ph.D. and editor for Britannica’s life science section, stated her thoughts on experimentation when she said,
Every year millions of cosmetics from different brands are kept on display. Not many people know that there are many steps in creating these cosmetics. On of the final step is to test these cosmetics on animals to make sure they are safe. Innocent animals who have no ability to fight or communicate with humans for justice. For past few years, the demand for beauty products increased as more women venture out into the work world. This increase in demand for cosmetic products have increased the need for more animals for testing. The approximate estimation of cosmetic business is 62.46 billion in 2016 and about 2 to 4 million animals were used for testing this beauty products last year. The federal government should come up with a law that would restrict or remove any
Over one hundred million animals in the United States each year are burned and crippled in lab testing. If you are a fan of cosmetics you can expect certain makeup companies to test their products on animals. You could also expect over thirty percent of these companies not making business. The history of cosmetic testing companies has been depicted as cruel and inhumane. In the cosmetic industry the employees are funded by the purchases of the people. Now once the buyers have the confirmation that the products they are using are animal tested, their sales will drop tremendously. The cosmetic industry should find a more equitable way to fund the buyers because costs for animal testing causes even more of an ongoing reason as to why more and more of one product is not being sold. These issues result in the extinction of brands and more protests against animal testing. Animal testing is a practice that needs more attention and regulation because it is cruel and inhumane, contains unnecessary animal suffering, and it is a poor way of testing for human diseases and treatments.
