I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical, but you could never work out the rules even if you spent all your time thinking about them. It wasn't about believing this or that it wasn't even about good and evil and right and wrong, it was about finding the strength to bear the discomfort that comes with being in the world. In the murder mystery novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, the author Mark Haddon graduated from Oxford University in 1981 returning later to study for an M.Sc. in English Literature at Edinburgh University. The book is about a fifteen year old boy named Christopher Boone. Christopher needs a counselor in the special needs classes and needs to go to a special school. After getting told to not be in the business by his father, Christopher didn't feel comfortable telling him he found out what happened. Once Chris's father found out about the book, his father started to hit him. The quote supports my claim because Christopher only likes prime numbers and is good at math from his point of view. prime numbers are very important and it's very logical because it can always work out in the rules when you can spend all your thinking. Christopher always got told to say the truth and nothing but the truth and never tell lies from his mother. From my point of view, Christopher just wanted to know the truth that his father didn't tell him about Mrs, Shears's dog and what really happened to his mother, but also why did Christopher have to find out on his own that his mother wasn't dead. If I was in Christopher's shoes, I would be super upset because we all need mothers and fathers in our lives. Christopher felt empty without his mother once he found out that his mother was alive and never had a heart attack. Christopher decided to make a plan to go to …show more content…
Christopher solves the mystery of the dog's death. Christophers decided to investigate the incident on his own and even traveled to London. Haddon Page 136 - "Haddon" Christopher struggles to understand the emotion of human communication and his desire for straightforward honesty when he undercovers the truth in his mother's access when he reflects to, "And I know I can do this because I went to London on my own and because I saw and solved the mystery of who killed Wilmington"(Haddon226). My quote supports Christopher's thought he could be undercover for the truth and how it took him to take the challenge on his own. Christopher once said, “I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical, but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking” Christopher likes prime numbers and didn't care about anything. Christopher once said “I like dogs, you always know what a dog is thinking, it has four moods: happy, sad, cross and thinkable. also dogs are faithful and they do not tell lies because they cannot talk”(Haddon
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is told through the eyes of a fifteen year old boy named Christopher Boone. Christopher has a highly-functioning form of autism which allows him to understand complex mathematical problems, but also leaves him unable to comprehend many simple human emotions. His inability to understand metaphors, distinguish emotions, and his lack of imagination makes it possible to consider Christopher as functioning like a computer rather than functioning as a human being. Throughout the story, Christopher is faced with many challenges which he conquers using the stable and never changing system of mathematics. All of these factors suggest that Christopher does, in fact, function like a computer,
Balance and stability are integral factors of a human life and in maintaining relationships between humans, and can be influenced by whether or not a harmony is found between an individual’s freedom and confinement. These ideas are clearly presented in Mark Haddon’s novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. In this text, Haddon conveys his ideas, through tone and emotive language, that the emotional and mental stability of an individual impact greatly on his or her relationships. Through symbolism, he also describes the way in which a moderate level of isolation is a crucial part in maintaining human relationships. Together, these allow for Haddon’s audience to gain a deeper understanding of humanity and human relationships.
Christopher finally learns the truth about his mother, in chapters 149 when he discoverers that there are letters from his mother addressed to him from his mother revealing that she is actually alive. When he learns the truth, Christopher begins ignoring his father, despite all of his father’s attempts to get Christopher to trust him. However, Christopher isn’t necessarily angry with him, he just begins giving his father the silent treatment. In fact, Christopher is a little excited by the idea of this whole thing being another “mystery.” This is until Christopher learns something else and the answer of the first mystery is exposed. Christopher’s father admits that he murdered the dog. When he learns the truth, Christopher’s trust towards his father almost completely vanishes, which is clear in this quote “But I screamed and pushed him backward so that he fell off the bed and onto the floor” (Haddon, 122). His father began trying to make amends, but Christopher didn’t accept his apology. An inner anger was triggered inside of Christopher that caused him

Haddon uses many examples in the novel when Christopher a 15 year old, does not realize how strange and awkward he is acting in instances with other people. The trainstation is a new place for Christopher and Hadden uses awkward behaviors and defense to create surprise.

Although the author makes it seem like Chris’s dad had nothing to do with the murder of Wellington, Chris always had a suspicion. Because he would never back down from anything he already started, he made the reader believe that some random person killed it. Chris had so many problems throughout the book that affected him in a huge way. Not only was Chris affected by his father it turned out to be the main issue in the story. The novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time written by Mark Haddon shows the perspective of a 15 year old boy. Christopher is different from everyone else and seems very abnormal. He is more of the narrator of the book. He enjoys math and favors some colors over others. Christopher dislikes the color yellow and brown and anything that can be those colors. One of the things Christopher dislikes the most is being touched by anyone, he feels very threatened when touched and can strike back with excessive force. Even if the person touching or grabbing him were the police or even his parents. Christopher starts to solve the mystery of the death of a dog, Wellington, bringing the audience along on his journey, focusing primarily on his thought processes. Simon Stephens was able to do this, by transforming this story to the stage. The set was visually demonstrated, for most of the scenes as graph paper, which displayed connections between Christopher and how he visualises and copes with the world he lives in. Christopher’s emotions are shown through his bodily behaviour but emphasised massively by the lighting, such as when he became stressed, prime numbers begin to scatter on the screen; a mechanism to calm him down.
The novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by: Mark Haddon is unlike any book I have ever read. In my opinion the title is misleading to what the story is actually about. But I think that’s what makes this book so incredible. By trying to solve the murder of the dog Wellington Chris uncovered a deeper secret. From the beginning it was easy to fall in love with Chris because of his innocent personality. Although in the book it never states Chris has autism we automatically assume he does because of his actions. I don’t have any experience of what living with autism is like but Chris’ story gave me a real understanding of what it is like to live with the disorder.

It has become paramount that composers utilise various techniques in order to influence an individual’s perception of the world. As seen through the eyes of an Aspergers sufferer, Christopher Boone, Mark Haddon’s inventive novel entitle ‘The Curious incident of the Dog in the Night Time’, skilfully portrays how the decisions of significant characters and their relationships shape the overall message about the difficulties of living with a limiting social condition. This is challenged from the unique perspective of Christopher and explicitly seen through the relationship between the protagonist and both his parents. Haddon employs a myriad of techniques through the concepts of the conflicting nature of love, the desperation for a world of
