Brenda Grayson Professor: Steve Klense CSCI1203 17 October 2017 Texting and Driving This paper will discuss matters as it relates to texting and driving. Since the creation of cell phones and the ability to text, it has become painfully obvious the effects has become of great concern. One of the more discussed issues relates to vehicle accidents. The ability to react while texting and driving becomes increasingly difficult as drivers react to traffic. Subject matters related to texting and driving is in large part an attempt to bring awareness to the public the dangers that exist. “In 2015, there were 3,477 people killed and an estimated additional 391,000 injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers”. This is a stark reminder of the risk one takes when operating a motor vehicle. These are innocent lives which has been taken due to the carelessness of those behind a steering wheel. Where in a time were health care cost is impacting our economy, and it has been suggested if each state could minimize injuries due to texting and driving, this could help to limit visit to the emergency rooms. “Nine percent of all drivers 15 to 19 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crashes. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted at the time of the fatal crashes”. Many of these children are not taught safety measures as it relates to cell phone use and texting. This is the
