The Day of 4/20
Once upon a time, there was a kid named Dylan. Dylan was 13 years old and just moved from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Dallas, Texas. He moved on April 10th and started going to his new school and he didn't know anyone or had many friends. Whenever he rode his bus though he saw some suspicious stuff, he saw a bunch of smoke from the back of the bus and he was questioning what it was, he thought to himself maybe they have a smoke machine in the back and where testing it out. He honestly thought that was what it was at first and wanted to go back to the back of the bus to watch it. The next day at school he started to make some friends that played football and basketball, they taught him how this school worked and all the people

Then the kid asked Dylan a question that defined his life and what path he would go down. “Hey, you want to smoke with us after school?” Dylan didn't know what to do, he didn't even know what weed was. He looked around and it looked like the other kids were having fun and wasn't really harmed by it so he said “Hell, why not.” So he did after school, He had a blast and made so many new friends, he also thought he has found a new way to relax and it was harmless, at least that's what he thought. He didn’t know the more he did it the more he started getting addicted, Dylan just thought he found a way to make some new friends and just have some fun. Thinking it was just that he started smoking before school every day and you could of smelt it through the whole school. He noticed everyone wasn’t being friends with him, the football team never hanged out with him anymore, the basketball team left him in the dust. He didn't understand why too, maybe he they just didn’t want him around them at all. The only friends he had was the people that smelt the same way as him, smelt exactly like weed. He officially turned into a stoner. There wasn’t any going back either, if he quit it then no one would believe him or would leave him because he didn't smoke so he …show more content…
He saw all of his old stoner friends going to jail too, he heard they also started to get killed because they took part in some gang activities. After Dylan’s freshman year, he finally straighten his life up and stopped smoking and doing anything bad anymore. He got his grades up at the end of the semester to straight B’s, he got very athletic during the summer and he joined the football team. He was a the Quarterback’s favorite wide receiver, mainly because they’ve gone together for so long. Andrew was the head Quarterback now and the dynamic duo made the Texas High School Football State Championship. The night before the game Andrew and Dylan slept together and Dylan couldn’t go to sleep because he was so nervous, he remembered how he came from having a addiction for weed into the state championship for football. “What you thinking about Dylan?” said Andrew. “Man I can’t get over how far we have came, from being the back-up of the team to leading us to a state championship or battling a addiction of weed.” “Yeah, it’s kind of crazy to think about isn't it. But we still have a championship to win and after that, we can relax and reflect on what we have done.” said Andrew as he shut off the last slither of light in the room. “Good night Andrew.”

High school is a big time for change in a teenagers life. They go through problems with friends, family, grades, and sports. For Andy Jackson, a 17 year old student at Hazelwood High School, he went through all of those troubles. He plays for the basketball team with his friends Rob Washington, Tyrone Mills, and B.J. Carson. One night after basketball practice, Andy was drinking alcohol and driving which led them to get in a car crash. Andy, Tyrone, and B.J. escaped the car with a few cuts and bruises, but Rob got stuck and burned to death. Rob’s death brought Andy to blame himself. He turns away from his friends, his girlfriend, Keisha, and his family. Andy changes negatively after the car crash; he becomes insecure, he closes up his feelings, and he turns emotionally weak.
Dylan has a lot of struggles and is stuck in a ‘black hole’, but he did not give up and he escaped the streets. Throughout the book, he tries to stay out of trouble as much as he can and tries to stay away from bad influences and avoid the kids who works for Brendan. However, he talks a lot with Jenna, who works for Brendan and because of that, it got him into trouble and had been beaten up on purpose. Because of that fight, he is in pain and Jenna goes seem him in a old factory where he sleeps and she gives him pills. The pills are drugs, but he does not know which one and that got him addicted.

In the summer James practiced with his dad and sometimes with his friends. James loved playing with dad. They would play every day and would never miss a game. Their favorite team is the Dallas Cowboys. James was born in Dallas and lived in Dallas his whole life. His dad always gave him tips and lessons. The Morgan’s had always been having trouble with money. James’ dream is to play in the NFL and help his parents with money issues. Summer flew by and college was starting soon. On his way to his friend’s house, his dad’s friend from work came over and had news, bad news. He said that his dad got in a bad car accident and is paralyzed from the
The speaker Chris Herren, a former McDonald's all American basketball player, was a straight A student, a smart kid, but when he started surrounding himself with alcoholics and drug abusers, he couldn't help but join them. His drinking and drug abuse caused him to have to quit basketball and become a speaker for drug abusers, and it all started because of a few friends convincing him to drink a few beers on a Saturday night. If he would have said no and created his own path in life, then maybe he wouldn’t of had to go
He tries so hard to quit; however, he can’t. He is addicted to methamphetamine. He’s gone to plenty of rehabs and numerous 8 step programs, but he isn’t strong enough to beat this addiction. He sells stuff he owns for “Just one more hit”. He keeps telling himself this is the last time, but it’s really not because of a side effect called withdrawal, where they experience severe depression, loss of energy and the need to use more. This occurrence happens often 30-90 days. He loses his house because he can’t pay rent because he cannot hold a job. This once straight A student is now living in an alley and is hooked on meth. Now imagine if this was you sleeping in that cold alley with people that made the same mistakes as you. “Everyone starts out innocent, it’s the choices you make that will define who you are,” Going, K. Sunshine was pouring out from in between the buildings, casting shadows all around Ponyboy and the gang as they walked to Pony’s school. They were taking their time walking down the streets and for the first time they all were really seeing what was all around them. Memories were surfacing in their minds showing them what it all meant to them. With every step they took on the sidewalk they remembered a different memory as if they were walking down memory lane. Ponyboy didn’t think it was possible for him to be walking down this street for the last time as a high school student, but he had gone through the years with great grades that earned him many scholarships.
This fictional book tells an emotional story about the change in the bond between two best friends as they grow up. During the 1960s, drugs such as marijuana and LSD was common among the hippies and this leads to a life-changing decision that changes the lives of the two best friends, Mark and Bryon. Bryon’s girlfriend’s younger brother, M&M, takes a turn to an unexpected world of drugs that change him from the sweet boy he once was, to a scared and weak boy. Drugs were the fault to this problem and when Bryon finds out that his best friend Mark has sold drugs to earn money, he makes a decision that changed both of their lives forever.
At the opening of the story, the narrator has just learned that his brother, Sonny, had been arrested for drug use. “He had been picked up the night before in a raid on an apartment downtown for peddling and using heroin” (Baldwin, 123 ). He quickly felt the hopelessness and despair that you feel for anyone who gets into drug usage and the unrelenting disbelief. “I didn’t want to believe that I’d ever see my brother going down, already seen so many others.” (Baldwin, 123). The narrator does not want to believe in Sonny’s downfall, but in his heart of hearts, he knows it to be true. He takes time to reflect on his students and how he watches the same addictions take over their lives. “Maybe it did more for them than algebra could.” (Baldwin, 123.) The narrator also feels like he failed his mother by not looking out for Sonny and not being aware of his downfall into addiction. “You got to hold on to your brother and don’t let him fall, no matter what it looks like is happening to him and no matter how evil you get with him.” (Baldwin, 133). Sonny’s
Jeremy started to miss a lot of school because he believed it was a waste of time. Have you ever heard the phrase “time is money”? Well that’s exactly where Jeremy’s mindset was. From selling gum he went to pencils. From pencils it went to his urine until he couldn’t provide what the market was asking for, if you know what I mean. Of course with these selling habits, drugs were the next step in Jeremy’s life as an entrepreneur. Over time like any irresponsible child would do, he got caught. Busted by the only other people you do not want to get caught by besides the police; your parents. From this point on Jeremy calmed his habits and started spending his time differently. Jeremy had such a fond relationship with marijuana he decided he wanted to grow some himself. He wanted to test how his first plant would grow so he poked a little hole in the ground behind the shed near his house and dropped the tiny seed in. Two days passed and not a single sign of life. The following day he went back and checked the spot, where he had
The protagonist of the story is an unnamed male whose experiments with alcohol and weed at fifteen years old lead to harder drugs and greater consequences that threaten his safety and security. For example, the narrator says, “Donny said he saw me standing sorta wonky in the back and said I need a hit. Donny was the first to get me high”, he implies that his friend Donny got him high because of how he was standing. The use of drugs did not just stop at marijuana, the narrator also indulged in alcohol, he goes on saying, “The rest of the kids would watch as Mark and I shotgunned Schlitz beneath the bleachers of the stadium”. Which eventually led to him dropping out if school and focusing on his habits and not his well-being. The protagonist constant influences from his friend and associates increased his use and encouraged the damages that were being done to him and his body. His habits started to heighten and the stronger drugs were amongst him,
