Offenders are frequently unembellished drug and alcohol users, abusers or impulsive individuals.

As a result homicides are generally stanch in the heat of anger or deep emotion while either

under the influence of substances or mentally ill. The best approach that some believe should be

taken in a situation as such is to help these people instead of ending their lives. Those who

consider deterrence to be more justifiable for the execution of convinced criminals allow the

problematic of proving that the death penalty is a deterrent. The purpose of this study is to reveal

how the death penalty might affect crime rates and the cost of the death penalty vs the cost of life

According to the article the cases that the prosecutor try and

seek life in prison sums up approximately $1.1million and in cases where prosecutors seek the

death penalty sums up to about $3million. Death penalty cases are about $2 million more than to

ask for life in prison (Roman, J. 2008).Data like this could prove that life in prison is not as

costly to but someone to death .

An article by “the Death Penalty Works American Spectator” which states that in the 90’s

when death penalty law was being remove from sentences the crime rates got higher than the

year the last death penalty sentences was issued. It also stated that many people are for the death

penalty because if might decrease other non-fetal crimes. The author also says that homicides

rates decrease between 1930-1990 (Tucker, W. (2000).Article such as this one would be use to

compare with recent article to see why homicides rates had decrease and why it increase today .

I am using this as a tool for my own knowledge to know more about the process

of the death penalty and also to educate someone who may not know much about the process and

the effect.

The method used to collect information on this research was done by the use of data

collection. The data collection that was used to collected information was gather from the FBI

agency report, Statistic was taken from the FBI statistic report and compile in my research. The

use of UCR uniform crime report would have statistics such as homicide committed and the

location where the homicides occur and match up the location with states that have the death

penalty. In this research I would compare 10 states that have the death penalty and 10 states

without it. In this research I would compare homicides that have been committed with a gun in

the states that have death penalty with the states that do not have the death penalty .Also in this

research I would be comparing the gun laws of the states that have the death with the states that

don’t have the death penalty. States like New York and Florida both prohibit open carry firearm,

but on the other hand Florida as the death penalty and New York
