According to the Constitution of Kuwait, the Amir is regarded as the supreme commander of the armed forces. The Minister of Defense directs the armed forces through the Chief of General Staff. There is a separate wing of The National Guards that has its own commander, who is responsible for reporting directly to the Minister of Defense. The security forces assigned for public duties are under the command of the Interior Minister. In 1993, the Defense Minister, Ali as Sabah as Salim Al Sabah, was deployed at another department than Interior Ministry after the Gulf War. The ultimate power in the state lies with the ruling family. Before the invasion of Iraq, the strength of Kuwaiti army was 16,000 officers and soldiers. The …show more content…
The weaponry and tanks that survived the war were not enough to cater the security needs. Post war, the military equipment ordered by Kuwait included 200 M-84 tanks (imported from Yugoslavia in return for which the previous Yugoslavian oil purchases were offset) and 18 self-propelling 155mm guns from France. Kuwait also has an inventory of American, Russian, and Egyptian armored vehicles (“Military” 1). The population of Kuwait is about 3.7 million and its GDP (PP) is $153.5 billion with 8.2% growth in 2011. The 5-year compound annual growth of the country is 3.1% with $41,691 per capita. The FDI Inflow is estimated to be $398.6 million and public debt is about 7.3% of GDP. Kuwait`s economy has been ranked 66th freest in the 2013 Index since its economic freedom score is 63.1. The country is ranked 7th among 15 of the Middle Eastern and North Africa region. The progress towards an economic freedom has not been even for Kuwait. The transition from conservative approaches towards a diverse attitude has been a challenge. Despite the efforts made to bring diversity and modernism to the economy, the production of oil is still dominant. The private sector depends upon the government for finance and labor since the labor market is highly segmented. The public sector employs about 80 percent of the labor force. Privatization law was passed in 2010; however, little effort has been made towards its implementation.
Since the inception of the United States of America 250 years ago, our government has enacted a practice of lies and deceit that keep its citizens in the dark. Matters such as false allegations that result in long standing wars, financial misuse and abuse, secret alliances that serve the government agenda's, and the altering of history affect not only the US citizens, it affects the global population as a whole. This deception has resulted in mistrust of the US Government as people question what our government is up to and what they are seeking to gain. In order to earn the public's trust, the United States Government needs to be transparent with its citizens, giving us the information whether it's positive or negative instead of allowing

Senator Joe Donnelly, a democrat from Indiana, has been at the forefront for the fight to pass these policies: he also wrote them. He had one son commit suicide and another killed by a bomb while in Iraq. His latest crusade is a three-pronged “Service Member and Veterans Mental Health Care Package” to add to the National Defense Authorization Act. It passed right after Thanksgiving after a passionate speech from the Senator and focuses on the continuum of care for service members and veterans.
The Secretary of Defense and The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced in January of 2013 the rescission of the 1994 Direct Ground Combat Definition and Assignment Rule (DGCDAR). The DGCDAR restricted assignments of women to communities or jobs within the military in or collocated with direct ground combat units below the brigade level, in long-range reconnaissance and special operations forces, and in positions involving physically demanding tasks. This now correlates to the opening of previously closed occupations, to include the USMC infantry, to women who can meet occupation-specific, gender-neutral standards of performance. 230,000 positions that were previously unavailable in the U.S. armed forces to women are now available. From active-duty, to veterans, to civilians alike, one thing we’ve heard is the reluctance of many to publicly oppose the idea. This reluctance stems from a fear of being tarred-and-feathered “politically incorrect," a term apparently as morally reprehensible as crime nowadays.
For this research paper, I will be examining some circumstances and challenges surrounding the tenure of former United States Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) The Honorable Robert M. Gates. The evidence to support my research paper will be derived from Alfred A. Knopf’s book entitled, “Robert M. Gates, Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War”, and some web journals/articles. Gates was originally appointed SECDEF by President George W. Bush, and asked to remain in that office by his predecessor President Barack Obama. Gates served as SecDef from 2006 to 2011. Before he retired, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor by President Obama.
The United States was built upon the idea of freedom liberty for all. This country freed itself from the tyranny of English back in the late 1700’s. Now, after over two centuries of hardships, the United States still stands strong and as a well known, respected presence in the modern world. The United States Armed Forces is not the largest military in the world; however, it is arguably the strongest in the world. There are five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and each respective branch specializes in different aspects of defense and attack.
In January of 2013, then United States Secretary of Defense (SecDef) Leon Panetta under the auspicious of the President and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lifted the ban excluding women from combat-related jobs. The policy, part of the Women Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, barred women from combat-related occupations within the U.S. military for more than 60 years. Opinions varied with liberal-minded individuals and feminist praising the administration 's progressivist ideas concerning gender inequalities between men and women; other 's lauded the move as nothing more than a social experiment that could potentially weaken the military 's warfighting capabilities. Two years later, incumbent SecDef Ashton Carter expanded the rule set by
I am Joseph Maruska, I am currently a Major in the United States Air Force. This essay will introduce you to my personal command philosophy. It will also summarize and analyze a brief interview recently conducted with a current squadron commander using my own leadership philosophy as a guide. Throughout this essay I will draw upon my own personal experiences and thoughts, lessons discussed throughout the Leadership and Command Course, as well the discussion with a current squadron commander. Leadership and command styles come in many different forms and there is not necessarily a correct or incorrect way to lead depending on your organization or current turn of events. This essay is simply my thoughts after being in the Air Force for the last eleven years.
defensive posture of the United States, their ability to plan for attacks on the United States may become diminished to the point of unsuccessful operations. (JCS 2015, pg.)
As President Ronald Reagan famously said, “History has taught us only too well, that tyrants are tempted only when the forces of freedom are weak, not when they’re strong.”
Every year, hundreds of expatriates arrive in Kuwait because of their poverty, and the reason behind that is that their governments’ economy is essentially weak. In addition, those people who live under poor conditions cannot earn their basic needs. For example, poor people cannot afford proper education and that would prevent them from getting a decent job to be able to provide their necessities. As a result, we have heard about those tragedies all over the years. Therefore, poor people leave their countries in order to survive through working outside their own country to ensure their needs and their family life. In the meantime, expatriates face a lot of trouble while working outside their country.
The economy in the United Arab Emirates has experienced substantial increases in the last 40 years. The UAE’s capabilities with the pearling and oil industries have given the region its necessary budgets to expand so rapidly. The economic policies in the UAE have gone through stages, since the birth of the region in 1971. Changes in economic welfare of the markets, and privatization policies are also key aspects in understanding the UAE’s economic liberalization and growth. In order to understand the UAE’s economic standard, economic liberalization must be analyzed. The argument of this paper will discuss how economic liberalization has occurred in the United Arab Emirates and is continuing to grow.
UAE is located at the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula on the Arabian Gulf sometimes referred to as Persian Gulf, bordering Oman , and Saudi Arabia to the south, sharing sea borders with Qatar and Iran (CIA World Factbook). The population is estimated to be 9.446 million and consists of 1.4 million Emirati citizens and 7.8 million expatriates, majority of whom came from India, Pakistan, Philippines and other Arab countries. It was established in 1971 as a federation of seven emirates (states). Each emirate is governed by a monarch; together, along with some elected representatives, they form the Federal Supreme Council – legislative organ. One of the monarchs is selected as the President of the United Arab Emirates.
Oman is the second largest country in size as well as population in the Arabian Peninsula. The country is 309,000sq.m. Similar to other nations in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the main contributors to the Oman economy are oil and gas. Oxford Business Group (2015), reports that oil and gas contribute to around 50% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) (OXFORD BUSINESS GROUP 2015, P.2). With the oil prices slumping in the recent past, the country’s economy has made up for the decline by facilitating private investments. In 2013 and 2014, a rise in private investment and public investment expanded Oman’s economy from 78.3bn to 80.57bn (OXFORD BUSINESS GROUP 2015, P.2).
