Many people have their different opinions on the definition of being tough. Whether it's being physically, mentally, or emotionally tough. To me, in a way all of those mean you’re tough. I’ve seen, heard, and been through many things that make me tough. How are you tough? Growing up with no mother? Being bullied and still moving on? Being able to lift 300 pounds? What makes you tough? When most people hear the word tough they think, being strong, buff, or ripped. For instance little children tend to say, “I wanna grow up to be big and strong just like Daddy.” They don't understand that there are more things to being tough. Although, they are not wrong. If I can lift twice my weight that makes me physically strong. And I’m going to be damn
Being strong can be defined in many ways. For this situation, strength could mean plain power, the higher title you have, the stronger you are. It seems as if all of the play is just a game of power between every character. A game of king of the hill. The player (or in this case the

In my senior year i've had lots of experience in leadership as I am a Section Leader in my band and im the president of Key club a student lead service based organization that is focused on improving out school and community. An example of my leadership role is that as a section leader I was responsible for teaching incoming freshmen the ropes about marching band. There was a particular difficult freshman who was joining band. This young girl was very shy and did not really interact with others. Many of the other section leaders had tried to encourage her yet she only seemed to brush them off. They were ready to give up on her but I could see that she wanted to care about band but didn't know how to show it because she was so shy. I decided

One of the greatest challenges I had to face was my transition from Haiti to the United States. During that transition, I was faced with a lot of adversity. It varied from fitting in, academic struggles and remaining focus. Throughout all the trials and tribulations that came with it, I was able to be resilient. In my own words, to be resilient is to allow challenges to impact me in a positive way where at the end I can say I am an overcomer.
Resilience is the ability to recover from adversity . One person that showed resilience was Bethany Hamilton . Bethany Hamilton was a teenager that loved to surf , but when she got attacked by a shark and lost one of her arms becoming an amputee proved a lot . Bethany Hamilton is resilient because she didn’t give up surfing after her attack , she was not afraid , and she remained strong. Determination is the act of deciding definitely . Bethany Hamilton was resilient because she was determined . She showed determination by starting all over again with just one arm . It had only took a few week to recover and
There are many ways to be healthier and stronger. People can go work out to becomes stronger and can be unstopable. By being healthier can cause your body to be in good condition and not get sick that much of any disease. Becoming stronger can be useful for good stuff that can be easily handled and also it’s like being healthier because it shows how good you are and it's possible to live even longer. Stew Smith wrote an article about mental toughness, he describe his thoughts on it since he was a former Navy SEALs. Navy SEALs has to endure such pain on the body and mind in order to become a SEAL. There is no solution as to acquiring mental toughness when wanting to become a SEAL.
“Sometimes you don’t realize your own strength till you are face to face with our greatest weakness”(Susan Gale).Susan Gale perfectly explains her quotes about strength in a person and how strong a person can be mentally and physically. Strong means to be fearless and being able to handle things that most people would cower when brought upon them. In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus and his beloved wife, Penelope, were the power couple of Ithaca, they were meant to be. Though they were strong, they were both strong in different ways. For example, Odysseus possesses physical strength on his epic journey while Penelope contains mental strength while her husband is gone.
The character traits I possess that have helped me to overcome personal adversity are curiosity, focus, and composure. First of all, curiosity helps me to easily gain a lot of knowledge because I always have a desire to know more about every information. For example, why question is my frequency question in class. This help me to understand the lessons and memorize them longer. Especially, I always ask myself what I should do to be better; therefore, I can forget difficulties and continue to work harder. The second trait that help me to overcome my adversity is focusing on everything I do. I always know what I should do and how to make a plan for it. Planning and focusing help me to stay on the right track so that I can quickly achieve success. Last but not least, I believe that composure is one of the most important trait that can help me to solve my problems faster. In fact, whenever I have problem in life, I always try to calm down and spend time to think carefully instead of getting angry. Therefore, I can find out
All too often we do not think about our personal strength until a situation arises that causes us to use this natural attribute that we know as strength.
The main problems with mental toughness are the inconsistency of its definition, and a lack of research into clearly defining mental toughness and what attributes are required to be mentally tough (Jones et al, 2002). The earliest definition of mental toughness was provided by Cattell (1957), suggesting mental toughness was an important personality trait, supported by Kroll (1967). Loehr (1982, 1986, 1994) attempted to define mental toughness, suggesting “mental toughness is the ability to use energy positively during crises and the possession of positive attitudes towards challenging and demanding situations”, although this definition lacked scientific definition regarding positive attitudes (Crust, 2007).
