At twelve years old, my biggest concern was how many more days until softball season started. I was concerned with history tests and my favorite shows on tv. I was a normal twelve year old. However, it seems as though what is normal is changing, rapidly. Teenage drug use is sweeping the nation. Rural areas, which Missouri has an abundance of, are being hit hard by what is now considered “the norm” for teenagers. Missouri is overrun with teenage drug users; due to, limited educational programs, negative parental assistance, and no solutions.

This ended in reduced chances of graduating because of low grades. When using drugs friends and family are affected by the choices that addicts are making. This will cause several conflicts, which will result in relationships becoming more distant and eventually falling apart. Although, each family will be affected differently due to the level of severity of the addiction. In certain situations addicts may be using more hardcore drugs therefore friends and families can become more hostile. Some family members will go as far as not talking to the person who is abusing drugs or begin to get legal protection. The abuser may establish certain feelings such as guilt, fear, and embarrassment. This may have a negative impact of trust in further generations. Everyone knows that your home life can affect your school and work environment as well as your performance in both places, but when drugs and alcohol are brought into your home it can affect all areas of your life. In certain times trust will be affected due to the addict's choices. Some rely on stealing money, jewelry, and expensive items from stores and even from their families in order to pay for their drugs. The effect for the addict, as well as the family is the most damaging of all addictive disorders. Prescription drugs, heroin, cocaine, and meth are examples of drug abuse. The addictive behavior generally starts with peer pressure and then develops into a habit to release the pressures felt from life’s hassles. While the drug user is aware of the health and financial impact of the drug addiction, the drug is more important than the addiction to drugs itself.

A central objective of the government’s Updated Drug Strategy 2002 is ‘preventing today 's young people from becoming tomorrow 's problem drug users’ (Home Office, 2002, p. 7). From my personal observation in my community, people may abuse drug for several reasons. I examine one of the main reasons for one to abuse drugs, which is the failure to socialize with other people around them in the right way. Such people believe that the further they are from the rest of the world, the better their life becomes. For this cause, a person separates himself/herself and quits socializing with others. Eventually, solitude takes its place in such a person, leaving them overwhelmed by loneliness and a feeling of being left out. Being emotionally distant from friends and loved ones erodes the self-confidence of that person. As time goes by, he/she resorts to drug and substance abuse as a substitute of the missing socialization. This occurs when they become confounded by the belief that smoking, drinking or sniffing drugs will set their minds free from isolation and solitude. This habit creates the wrong impression that the more they purchase drugs from their addicted peers, the more they make new friends, and hence the more they are engaging in socialization. Unfortunately, they fail to recognize that this is the wrong way of socializing. In this manner, substance abuse damages both an individual’s life and the community at large with its deleterious effects.

Now ，there are lots of teenagers all over the world who use drug. And it becomes a very normal thing in society. According to foundation for a drug free world, we realize that drugs can make a person stop thinking and become very dull.(Drug Free World). And now all medicine has drug, so teenagers do not know how bad they are.I think now the society has two big elements,that can cause teenagers use drug , such as environment and different personalities.
