As a “cradle Methodist,” the standards and theological tasks mentioned in Part III of the Discipline are ingrained in how I understand and apply my faith. These aspects of the United Methodist tradition have been a foundation from which I have grown during my formative years. Although I have not always been able to articulate these beliefs, I have learned the power in living them in addition to teaching them. I believe that much of the affirming, teaching, and applying of our standards and theological task that I do in my ministry is out of this same foundation that was formative to my faith. It informs how I preach, the lead Bible studies I lead, how I lead youth group, and my interactions with congregants and the community.
The church’s ministry of teaching and learning is the collective discernment of the community, as loving people of God, which integrates and challenges the understanding of their presence as individuals in an ever deepening connection with God and their community of neighbors through various reflective methods and practices, which engage scripture, tradition, experience, and reason. This definition may appear simple if taken at its face value. However, upon further inspection its elements contain subtle meanings even multiple layers of meaning. Thus, further explanation of these elements is required and displayed herein.
The meeting I attended took place in Bothell on a weeknight at 7:00 pm in the evening. The meeting was held in a local church and there were 17 people in attendance, excluding myself. Among the 17 people, there were 6 women and 11 men. The average attendee was approximately between the ages of 40-50, 4 people were under the age of 30, and two were somewhere around 60. Of the 17 people, 16 were white and one woman was of an Asian-American descent.

I chose to learn more about the Korean Baptist culture for my multicultural event. I attended a Sunday morning worship service at the MS Korean Baptist Church located at 337 Forrest Avenue in Biloxi, Mississippi. The billboard sign for the church listed the serve time at 11 o’clock, but people began praising once they entered the door. I felt nervous before the service began because I was the only African-American female in the church with three children, but everyone made us feel right at home. From observing the congregation, I noticed that the church was packed and the female ratio was much higher than the male. When my family first walked into the church, all the Koreans began to bow.

The country that my group and I our doing is North Korea, in Asia. In my part I am going to cover religion. In North Korea, there is a religion called Juche. This is the only region that is accepted. Juche also known as "Kimilsungism" after Kim llsung, is a religious, political, social and economic ideology of North Korea (The Juche Idea). Juche is a nonmaterial element. The idea was first introduced by Kim llsung in 1955 to distance North Korea from the Soviet Union, which at the time was undoing many of the Stalinist policies that Kim llsung liked. Overtime, Juche evolved borrowing from Marxism, Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism, and Confucianism. Whatever Kimllsung and Kim Jongil wanted, as well as their won ideas, and in 1972 replaced Marxism-Leninism
My involvement with the Methodist church begins from my childhood years when I participated in Sunday School activities. As a young child growing up in Ghana, West Africa, my church encouraged me to be well versed in the bible by allowing me to read one of the three passages for all three church services on the first Sunday of every month. Prior to the first Sunday, my Sunday School teacher gave me a passage from the Bible to learn and read at church. A few years later, I rose to the position of the Methodist Church Steward in my home church in Ghana.
