Introduction Leadership is one of the most researched and debated topics in the subject of effective organizations, as evidenced by the quantity of studies and researches conducted this past century. While research has been done to support several leadership theories, which have improved our understanding of effective leadership, how and why leaders have a positive impact on their organizations is still a valuable question for leadership studies .This paper is intended to look into those leadership skills and traits that are critical in impacting employees’ performance and thus the organization’s effectiveness. The paper will define leadership, list major leadership styles and discuss the difference between transactional and transformational leadership, discuss the difference between leadership and management, discuss emotional intelligence and charismatic leadership, and provide conclusions and limitations of this paper . Leadership definition Leadership can be defined as the behavior that gives purpose, meaning, and guidance to followers by articulating a vision and motivating them to accomplish this vision. In organizational leadership this definition can further be defined as the ability to influence people to perform a number of tasks within a period of time (Vigoda-Gadot, 2007; Hyvari, 2006).
