1. Describe the different types of business intelligence users at Colgate-Palmolive.
According to Laudon & Laudon (2014), outputs from the warehouse are sent to senior managers daily which includes HTML tables that show a series of financial and operational metrics that are used to compare to other periods such as previous months and quarters. Also, other senior managers in other company regions receive the same data. The company’s “power users” which are usually middle managers are comfortable using the SAP system’s analytical and reporting tools provided by the warehouse, and these managers are pleased with the reports from the system according to Laudon & Laudon (2014). In addition, other than the daily financial and operational reports, Laudon & Laudon (2014) states that senior managers and other employees that are less frequent users of the system are not as comfortable with running ad hoc reports or going deeply into the data piles to get answers to questions that were brought to the forefront by the data.
2. Describe the “people” issues that were affecting Colgate’s ability to use business intelligence.
Some of the “people” issues that were affecting Colgate’s ability to use business intelligence centers revolved around the comfort level that its users had with the programs.
