Rachel Brown, a dynamic character in Inherit the Wind, is transformed by her experiences and actions. For example, at the beginning of the book Rachel asks, “Why can't you be on the right side of things?” to which Cates replies, “Your father's side”(Inherit the Wind 9). Rachel is against any thoughts defying her father. She refuses to even take a second glance at them. Rachel and Cates are very good friends and might even be beyond friends, but when it comes to opposing her father she will not stand up for him. On the other hand, as the book's end draws nearer, Rachel yells out, “No! No, Father. Don’t pray to destroy Bert!” (Inherit the Wind 66). In the beginning of the story Rachel is invested in her fater 100%. She follows in his footsteps

He thinks his teacher Mrs. Baker is out to get him because every wednesday he has to stay with his teacher the whole afternoon while everybody is gone. She makes him read shakespeare outside of class. When holling tries to address it to his parents they do not believe. His mom does not believe holling because she said “she hardly knows you”(6). On the other hand his dad wants him to be on his best behavior in front of her, even if she is out to get him. He wants him to be on his best behavior is because the teacher's family owns a sporting store that needs to be remodeled. The HoodHoods own a architect company
It can be hard to stand up for yourself. Rachel knows what she wants, but it is hard for her to get it. Everyone thought that Mrs. Price was right because she is the teacher and “teachers are always right.” This shows that because Rachel did not find courage in herself, everyone just thought Mrs. Price was right. This also shows that Rachel was an outsider in the class if everyone took Mrs. Price’s side, and no one stood up to Mrs. Price.
(464) Rachel's attitude towards Anatole and Leah and his kids is very negative and judgemental. Family is obviously not one of Rachel's main priorities, she is embarrassed to consider herself related to those boys. She is set on her opinion and initial view of African people, they are not accepted. She discriminates against them, even though that used to be her, in Kilanga people did not treat her the same because she was white or her blond hair.
This inner defiance gives evidence to Rachel’s determination and individuality. The sweater now represents a sort of barrier and if she submits herself to it, she fears the world of ages and maturity.
I never had that. My life was the store". This quote demonstrates that Rachel wanted a change and was ready to do whatever it took to get it. Rachel experiences at school were awful due to the fact that she was Jewish and her father owned a business. During this time period she stood out from other people and no one wanted to be her friend except for a white girl named Frances.

As we can perceive throughout Inherit the Wind we can see how Rachel’s dynamic personality allows her to see things for how they really are and how she is able to think for the first time in her life. As well, through Brady and Drummond’s opposing views on being open and closed minded we can see how Drummond thinking leads to a fulfilling and prosperous society and Brady’s way of thinking leaves the society with their heads in the sand afraid to come out, leaving society in the
depression upon Rachel. When we think of depression, we other think of cloudy days or even rain. “Weather is almost always symbolic. Rain serves to set the mood, or it acts as a cleansing. It indicates some type of transition” (Foster 45). The rain in this case can represent three important things, the sadness and emptiness she felt of losing her mother, the cleansing of proceeding to not feel trapped in her hatred birth given family anymore, and as she moves forward to a better life as she continues to follow her desires. Due to her aunt and father removing Rachel from the picture during that emotional time the Shilsky family was going through, all because she chose to live her life how she wished to live it resulted in her feeling that the entire situation was her fault when in reality she truly did nothing wrong, for her family (specifically her father and aunt) are in the wrong for being misunderstanding and disrespectful of her life decisions.

However, John is willing to do anything to right wrongs which causes a few problems between him and Rachel. Rachel is the exact opposite of John. She is cautious and opposed to killing
Rachel is a survivor of the Holocaust. She has lost all her family except for grandfather and her younger brother, Yacov. In the concentration camps, the Nazi took advantage of her in the most horrifying way. They beat and branded her. After the war, she was released and smuggled into Palestine. She had hoped to reunited with her grandfather but instead she was put in a home with many other families. The Jews, her own people, shunned her and would go near her. They called her horrible things like tradior and Nazi. They bullied her until she thought she was worthless, unloved, and ugly inside and out. Rachel closed herself off from others.
