Nobody fully understands what drives people to undertake a mission, but it often causes people to take many risks. For example, Farah Ahmedi climbed a mountain on a prosthetic leg with a sick mother just to reach freedom. Rikki-Tikki fought for his life to save his family. John Steinbeck eavesdropped on people's conversations just to get material for his book. These stories show different people who had each set a goal for themselves. Ahmedi and Rikki-Tikki fought for their lives to survive and save their loved ones. While Steinbeck traveled to great lengths to write his book. Their goals may be different but they all had set a goal and they all eventually accomplished their goal.

his book The World in Six Songs, Dr. Daniel J. Levitin explores how the influence of musical sounds on the brain has created and shaped human nature. He believes that the various functions of music have affected the evolution of human relations. These musical functions are performed by six types of songs: friendship, joy, comfort, knowledge, religion and love. He feels that anthropologists, archaeologists and psychologists have neglected to thoroughly investigate how music has contributed to the development of human nature. Levitin is a research scientist, a psychologist, an author, a professional musician and record producer, and also professor at McGill University where he heads the Laboratory for Music Cognition, Perception and Expertise. The story The Most Dangerous Game is a short story that portrays terror and fear, a sense of danger, and also the hatred that animals feel for their killer at the same time as making a contemporary correlation to real life. The Novel “Song of a Humming Bird” by Graciela Limón is an outstanding novel that emphasis on an elderly Indian woman. Who is close to her death and is inclined to come to church for forgiveness for thy “sins” she has committed. This book is focused how Indian women lived back in the 50’s. It mentions two different opinions from an Indian and a Spaniard. I enjoyed this book a lot it gave me an inside of what happened back in the 50’s. I will be describing the difference between two main characters in the book, the challenges the main character faced (Huitzitzilin) through the whole book. As well the culture for both characters. I liked how the author (Graciela Limón) started current and then talked about the past while being in the

“Song of the Hummingbird” was written by Graciela Limon . The book is about an Aztec princess Huitzitzilin who talks about what happens to her during the Spanish conquest. Huitzitzilin decided to tell her story to Father Benito who is one of the main characters in the book. At the end of the book, Huitzitzilin dies and Father Benito finally sees the truth through her eyes and her story. The main idea or the lesson that this book is trying to teach a person is that you should not automatically judge a person until you get to know them. The book “Song of the Hummingbird” caused me to have a rollercoaster of emotions and the lesson that I liked the most from this book was that you should give someone a chance before you judge them. The lesson that the book teaches the students is that you need to have the strength and you need fight for what you believe in no matter what the punishments are.

Odysseus, sweat dripping down his face, musters up all of his courage and attacks the wild giant Polyphemus with his newly fashioned spear blinding the foe and allowing for a narrow escape. Throughout the book The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus faces mythical enemies and nearly impossible odds. Each encounter requires more courage and mental strength in order to complete his journey home to Ithaca. It requires 10 years for Odysseus to make his journey home and the only reason he is able to persist through each hardship is his courage. It allows him to endure the worst but still be able to power through. The article “Courage vs. Boldness: How to live with Spartan Bravery” by Brett McKay describes the pros and cons of courage and boldness. In considering the events of The Odyssey, as well as the definition of courage laid out in McKay’s article, it is clear that Odysseus is a character who demonstrates more courage than boldness because he has the endurance to continually fight to get home, his cunningness that allows him to defeat his enemies with slim odds, and his inability to accept defeat.
