A Concussion’s Effect on Mental Health As of May 23, there have been over 2,200 lawsuits against the NFL over concussions. Most people think that concussions occur only during huge helmet-to-helmet collisions resulting in a player being knocked unconscious. These hits do cause severe concussions but the truth is that most concussions happen during small hits or in a dog pile. These mild hits add up and take a toll on your brain. I believe that the NFL should implement a concussion limit and mental test in order to protect player’s brains from damage. With proper recovery your motor skills will be back up to par and your brain should be able to concentrate on the tasks at hand. Without proper diagnosis, recovery, or testing a concussion can have a huge effect on one’s mental health. These affects can be anything from memory loss, lack of motor skills or something more serious like brain swelling and bleeding. Or in Junior’s case, possible sleep apnea. If the NFL implemented a concussion limit with mandatory mental health evaluations they could save lives, and stop possible future lawsuits. This would be for the better of the players and would also raise awareness on concussions because this new rule would be all over the
