Is it more effective in treating cancer, to spend more cancer funding on preventative campaigns or to focus on research? Introduction My purpose for writing this EPQ is to inform others of the importance of cancer funding and preventive campaigns. I wish to do this in such a way that it is simple to understand and it can be read without having large amounts of specific scientific knowledge. I wish to do this so that I can be understood and utilised by a greater audience. In this project I am going to be researching the effectiveness of treating and preventing cancer by having preventative campaigns and by the development and research of new treatment methods. I chose this topic because I have an interest in science and the human body. Also, when I am older I wish to work in scientific research, researching diseases. This essay will give an insight into the different ways that cancer is researched, treated and the ways that the risk of cancer is reduced. Also, from an economic aspect, between the cost of the actual treatment and research, to the loss of productivity, cancer is a huge expense to the economy. Therefore, it is beneficial to know which is more effective so that we can better allocate our resources. This will reduce the strain that is put on the economy. I am researching this topic because I believe that, out of these two methods, if we know which is more effective, we can concentrate on that method and therefore increase the number of people being positively
