This essay will examine and analyse the effects of a conscious strategy using examples where organisations that engage planning as a deliberate activity, achieve greater success. An examination of of planning and strategy in this paper will argue the strengths and weaknesses using specific models, case studies and examples to analyse this concept. Planning and Strategy differ, strategy is a detailed plan setting longer term directions and guides the organisation which key elements and resources need to be acquired or addressed in order to reach intended goals. This process requires time, effort, creativity and intuitive thinking by planners. The analysis of a Mission and Vision statement at the seedling stage of this creates the tone of the strategy. The ideal outcome is an obvious increase in profitability, and the capacity to generate growth opportunities to exceed the expectations of shareholders. Two theorists which have shaped the Strategic Planning Business community Porter and Mintzberg argue different approaches to using strategy to increase business performance. Research indicates, companies that integrate their strategic plans into daily operations succeed at a much higher rate and are more profitable. This activity encourages a much closer knit company culture.Team cohesion makes tough times bearable and successful or periods of increased profitability foster an environment where the collective profits.
