In the novel, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, betrayal takes place in many situations and it is almost always followed by forgiveness. Some of the motives behind the betrayal in the novel include- fear, spite, temptation, pride, selfishness, and doing what is right. In C.S. Whether for one’s own gain or for a malicious purpose, betrayal is a repeated theme throughout literature. In the playwright The Tragedy of King Lear, by William Shakespeare, the act of betrayal and abandonment poisons King Lear’s mind and allows for a powerful story of the love and hate between a father and his three daughters to develop. Shakespeare’s diction, analogy, and natural symbolism impacts the text by allowing readers to gain deeper insight into the emotional destruction that betrayal and disloyalty in a bloodline cause.
