It is to a certain extent amazing to realize that our eating habits have a remarkable influence on our physical appearance, but most significantly, on our general health and quality of life. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness where diet and food patterns play a major role in regulating the severity of the disease. Eating a simple meal or even snacking were an excruciating experience due to the fact that my gastrointestinal tract would not absorb or would reject macro nutrients, affecting me with severe nauseas, unsettled stomach, and vomiting. Getting to the final diagnostic was a long journey, full schedule of innumerable doctors’ appointments, very sophisticated scanning tests, and countless blood work. The medical exams revels a very slow digestive speed and very low level nutrients absorption from food which was triggering the lack of energy and worsen sickness symptoms. From that point moving forward, nutrition would play a key role in my life and would determine how I would feel and cope with the disease. Luckily, my dietician helped me to develop the essential understanding and knowledge in regards to recommended dietary allowances and also provided me a well-designed formulated nutritional plan, with the consideration that I needed to educate myself about smart variety of food choices and healthy eating patterns.
