Imagine being an elderly veteran trying to receive medical care assistance during a government hiring freeze. The connection between veterans and government is already apparent, however the connection is stronger then what people believe. It all starts from government trying to make cuts in payroll in agencies like the VA clinics. VA clinics are responsible for Medicare approval for veterans that have physical and mental issues. The problem is the hiring freeze results in workers in VA agencies resigning from work, due to low pay or a very heavy workload. The result is a very short staff that want to help as many as they can but cannot because of the lack of extra hands available. The help of several people, one of which has experienced …show more content…
Justification is something the government has failed to deliver on, in terms of people dying from the executive order. Shortages of employees already contribute to putting some federal programs at high risk, and the hiring freeze will make it "more difficult" to address that problem. "We've looked at hiring freezes in the past by prior administrations and they haven't proven to be effective in reducing costs and they cause some problems if they're in effect for a long period of time," This is a brief look at the article Eric Yoder wrote. The result is both government agencies and veterans being confused as to why there is no Medicare support being delivered to them and why the government really conducts hiring freezes. By Reinhardt, Beth; Rebecca, Are authors from the wall street journal. They talk about the hiring freeze Donald trump ordered which lasted 90 days, and every year 10% of federal agencies workforce. Over one hundred thousand veterans have been put on hold due to the freeze, and some did not make it. This not only make federal agencies like the VA look bad, but unkempt promises to veterans and law enforcement. Announcement of the end of the hiring freeze (1994) came in response to board vacancies. Judge positions were vacant as well due to a sudden death of one judge named Vincent Ballella. Kevin power conducted research on the effects of the government hiring freeze to see

Throughout the history of the United States the government has felt a responsibility to care for those who defend the freedom of the United States. This responsibility is to make sure that our veterans have the best care possible when they return home from war. Since its establishment, the Veterans Affairs (VA) has come under fire from all angles, saying that they are not offering the best possible care for our Veterans. Throughout history yellow journalism has been found to destroy some organizations. The VA is an organization who has experienced the effects of yellow journalism and they are trying to recover. The VA is taking the yellow journalism and turning it into constructive criticism in order to improve their services for the United States Veterans.
They claimed Iraq and Afghanistan veteran polls have been taken, it shows that whatever improvements and actions being were taken were not enough. Fifty-nine percent of the people rated the job the government was doing to help was good, while fifty-six percent rated it as them doing poorly. In an article by CNN news nineteen veterans have died because of delays for medical treatments from the Veterans Affair. Those nineteen veterans were only a small proportion of that group. A number of eight-two veterans who have died because of delays for medical treatments like colonoscopies or endoscopies. Some people like my father (Jason McLain), who is a retired veteran, believes that some doctors have their own personal bias toward veterans. Jason McLain stated, “When I go to the VA they do not help me as soon as I need their help. Although when I go to any other civilian doctor’s office they help me right away with any of their help”. A website by the name of Free Grants Community stated that success and failures of the Departments of Veterans Affair are frequently the subjects of political promises and debates. There are many places that can help with benefits or homelessness, simply anything veteran(active/retired) need. A six-year veteran stated that there are places to help but emphasizes that you have to pursue yourself. After you are done with the military to go back to school and to keep getting educated. Besides the fact the regular ordinary citizens complain that veterans are not getting enough help, there have been complaints against all employers for discrimination has blames the economic crisis and ballooning deficits for the inability to provide for more
If these people do not want to help veterans receive their benefits quicker, then they should not be employed by the VA. In the article, "Veterans Voice Frustrations Over Benefits Backing to VA Secretary Shinsek" it states, ". . . Based on the VA's own internal numbers, it shows that almost 1 million veterans are currently waiting for their benefit claims to be processed and that the wait time has grown 2,000 percent in the past four years", confirming that even though the workers are getting raises, there is no difference in the time it takes to get a claim processed and benefits received.(Sreenivasan) The VA is supposed to be there for the veterans' benefit, but they are taking their time and the wait time is gradually growing each time a new veteran goes for an appointment. With the list of veterans waiting to get their claims processed continually growing, the longer it will take for new or returning veterans to get their claims processed and benefits
The VA System needs a complete over all we are doing a terrible disservices to our veteran’s.
Over the past 15 years, the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) has seen a dramatic increase in the average degree of disability, growth in the number of compensation recipients, a rise in the number of medical issues claimed and an increased level of complexity of claimed issues. To illustrate this point, prior to the September 2011 terrorist attacks, 333,700 Veterans received compensation at the 70-100 percent level; however, these figures rose to over 1.1 million by the end of 2013. Additionally, since 2009, VA’s disability compensation workload rose 132 percent. This is in large part due to an unprecedented demand resulting from over a decade of war, military downsizing, economic issues, increased outreach, the addition of presumptive conditions and an aging Veteran population.
One of the most serious problems facing all veterans today is the lack of proper healthcare. Soldiers, sailors and airmen are leaving active duty without having proper healthcare to cover their physical or mental injuries. The department responsible for veteran’s healthcare is the Department of Veterans Affairs. (VA) According to The department of Veterans Affairs website, “The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a government-run military veteran benefit system with Cabinet-level status. It is responsible for administering programs of veterans’ benefits for veterans, their families, and survivors. The benefits provided include disability compensation, pension, education, home loans, life insurance, vocational
The VA Health Care is a program to veterans that need health care that they must attend. On the article Veterans Health Care said that “Department of Veteran’s Affairs is required by law to provide eligible veterans hospital care”. The public hospital provide service to veterans that need it, because they are required by law to provide medical care to veterans. The Veterans must attend a hospital for any physical, and mental check. Some veterans suffer from metals problems and don't attend for any help at the end they end up command to suicide. Because they see that they're a easy way out but they can find help. The U.S. should demand all the veterans that have serviced in the military with a physical check. They also provide Insurance that name Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance is a insurance that coverage for totally disabled veterans. If the Insurance is provided to all the veterans with no cost for all the disabled veterans. The United States treat the Veterans fairly but they’re not attending the
The United States Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs have taken steps to address the limited access to providers and the issues around a backlog of healthcare eligibility

It is administered by the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs.” The VA, who was formerly called the Veterans Administration, was established 21 July 1930, to consolidate and coordinate government activities affecting war veterans. The VA encompassed the functions of the former U.S. Veterans ' Bureau, the Bureau of Pensions of the Interior Department and the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. On 25 October 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed legislation creating a new federal Cabinet-level Department of Veterans Affairs to replace the Veterans Administration effective 15 March 1989 (V.A.)
Prior to the affordable care act, The Veterans health administration was an organizational based health care system. There were resources enough at that point to afford the benefits veterans had rightly accrued with their service and sacrifice. Veterans who receive care at the VA fit into two categories. They either are disabled from Service or they are means tested in. With the growing increase of the Disabled population in the veteran community from the Gulf Wars, the budget has taken a strangle hold on the VA Administration. In an effort to still operate, Senior Officials have chosen to break federal law because there has never been any real accountability in the bureaucracy that is the VA.
Contrary to the perception that our nation’s veterans are well supported in fact many go without the services they require of which they are
Since its establishment in 1965 we have seen Medicare change as people’s needs change however being a federal program these changes do have an incredible amount of lag time. One of the first major changes to Medicare occurred in 1972 when President Nixon signed the Social Security Amendments of 1972 which extended coverage to individuals under age 65 with long-term disabilities, expanded benefits to include some chiropractic services and speech and physical therapy. During this time we see the American public growing tired of the Vietnam Conflict and lack of support and care for those returning Marines and soldiers with severe disabilities. As the protests escalate and the peace initiatives fail a key piece of legislation is signed showing government support and a willingness to extend health care benefits to this growing and vocal population of veterans (The Vietnam War, 1999). Also included in this Amendment is the encouragement of the use of Health Maintenance Organizations, President Nixon’s administration caught in the scandal of Watergate and pending hearings appeased the left and proposed the HMO Act, which Congress passed in 1973 (Phillips, 2003).
The Veterans Administration (VA) has taken steps to help alleviate the situation of severe backlogs in their health care system. The VA has implemented programs to help ensure that veterans experiencing urgent mental health needs will be able to attain same day services (p. 18, Philpott).
No more veterans should be compelled to agonize or perish while the government fails to perform its obligations. [...] There comes a time when the political branches have so completely and chronically failed to respect the peoples constitutional rights that the courts must be willing to enforce them. We have reached that unfortunate point with respect to veterans who are suffering from the hidden, or not hidden, wounds of war. (Williams 1)
