Assignment 1: The Effects of Lifestyle on Health ‘Nutrition is the intake of food, considered in relation to the body’s dietary needs. Good nutrition – an adequate, well balanced diet combined with regular physical activity – is a cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity.’ The World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines state that to maintain a healthy balanced diet, people need to be consuming foods in a range of different food groups and so they have devised a daily recommended allowance as a guide to help people focus on what they ned to be eating to remain healthy and prevent dietary related chronic diseases. . Figure 2 – WHO guidelines The department of health released a helpful tool called ‘the eat well plate’ whichhighlights the types of different foods we should be including in our diets and shows the proportion we should be having to sustain a healthy balanced diet.
