Media use in society today is at an all-time high and many people don’t have any idea about the effect that it is having on their life. The effects of media use range from the actual messages the media is trying to convey, to the sheer amount of time that it consumes in an average person’s day. By recording my own media usage for one day, I have discovered that I also use much more media than I ever thought I did, even for a day that I was busy doing other activities. After recording the media that I was using throughout the day, I wasn’t too surprised to find out that almost all of the media that I use is accessible on my cell phone. In fact, after looking at the notes that I had made throughout the day, I realized that 50 % of my media usage for the day was from my cell phone. On my cell phone are numerous apps like Facebook, Snapchat, and ESPN that I get on every single day. On top of that, I also used my cell phone to communicate with people through text messages and emails, even though most of those were work related on this particular day. The next most used device from which I accessed media on would be my laptop computer. On my laptop computer I also checked my emails, fixed scheduling errors with the company that I manage, and worked on the homework that had been assigned to me. Finally, there are yet two more forms of media that I used throughout the day. The first one is the radio, on which I listened to music while I was driving home. The final forms of media
