INTRODUCTION Health Net’s Appeals and Grievances Department is currently experiencing the effects of mediocrity on work performance. These effects can be due to any number of issues. What is perceived as mediocrity by one person may be perceived as a result of stress by another, since everyone perceives situations differently. This can be debilitating to employees and be costly to employers. Managers need to identify those suffering from negative stress and implement restructuring as a defense against mediocrity and stress. This may reduce the impact stress has on employees ' work performance. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The purpose of this study was to determine the negative effects of mediocrity, complacency and stress on employees and the methods that Health Nets Appeals and Grievance (A&G) Department can manage employees ' stress. Health Net should be able to meet reporting guidelines for settling appeals and grievances. According to California state regulations, we must notify members of our decision about their grievance and/or as quickly as the case requires based on the member’s health status, but no later than 30 calendar days after receiving the complaint. We may extend the timeframe by up to 14 calendar days if you request for the extension, or if we justify a need for additional information and the delay is in your best interest.
