Chapter 1 Janetta Rebold Benton from Pace University in New York describes the earlier civilizations of man from various regions that are well known for developments. She talks about ancient civilizations in Egypt, as well as the famous Greece and Rome. She talks about the background of human beings such as the Homo sapiens from Africa and Neanderthal Homo erectus from Europe. She also provides insight for the Paleolithic period which corresponded to the Ice Age as well as the Neolithic period which is the period when man began to farm. Moreover they began rituals and religion during that period, during the Neolithic period. She further talks about the artistic activities that were developed during the early days such as the paintings cave at Lascaux in southern France that were created between 15,000 and 13,000 B.C.E. and this demonstrated the keen observation abilities that humans had during that time. Janetta further talks about the fundamentals of the civilization while mentioning the Mesopotamian civilization that was developed between Tigris and the Euphrates rivers. In her book, she mentions that the Egyptian civilization was developed gradually between 5000 B.C.E. and 3100 B.C.E. She talks about the different culture in Egypt such as ancient writing like cuneiform and hieroglyphics, religious aspects such as karma, the afterlife and even the book of the dead and architecture like the pyramids. Doubtless, the heart was considered the key to the resurrection and eternal life in Ancient Egypt as it was the source of thinking and feelings. Ancient Egypt is a fascinating ancient civilization. The Egyptian culture was heavily polytheistic with a complex view of the afterlife, which was evident in their architecture and communication. Even today as ancient Egypt melts together with modern Egypt. The pull of their ancient cities is still seen in Cairo and Alexandia.
The ancient Egyptian civilization, roughly five thousand years ago, was intelligent, powerful, and full of innovation-especially compared to other societies around at that time. The Egyptians worked on a grand scale, meaning they unified their two portions of Egypt, upper and lower, into one ruling system. This got rid of the normal city-state, (different countries/areas had individual freedom, government, and independence. Not unified), form of government that the world was used to.
Mesopotamian life was very simple, and not as extravagant as Egyptian existence. Mesoptamian folks lived in shafty residences, and farmland. They labored very rough, and religiously, the population was once made up of many specific religions,. There used to be no person religion. So it was once extra of plytheism, than mono. As for egyptian lifestyles, it was satisfactory and extravagant. Virtually evry family had slaves to do evrything for them, even though you weren't very rich.Women wore wigs and loved married existence and being mothers to the children. The men have been more of the socialites, drinking, and partying of their own manner.
When we think of ancient civilizations the first one that normally stands out is Ancient Egypt. The Egyptians were one of the very few that arose to civilization independently, and accomplished many impressive things along the way. The Egyptian civilization stretched along the lower reaches of the Nile River in Northeastern Africa.
Multiple factors go into account when considering that Ancient Egypt is one of the best civilizations of all time. First, the location of Egypt allowed it to prosper; second, the culture was one that the world hadn’t seen until then; third, the architecture that took place baffles scientists to this day; and lastly the impact it had on modern culture.
Egypt was a complex civilization because it had all of the important civilization indicators. Egypt was a smart resourceful they had strong beliefs. Under the rule of the Pharaoh, they build an empire and even now a thousand year later it is still one of the greatest civilization in history.
