Mechanical engineering is a field of engineering, which relies on the use of material science and physics for the design, manufacturing, analysis and maintenance of mechanical systems. This area requires a good understanding of the core engineering concepts such as mechanics, thermodynamics, kinematics, structural analysis, material science, and electricity. With all these, mechanical engineers have to be conversant with tools like computer-aided design, industrial equipment and machinery, transport systems, cooling systems, aircraft, robotics, watercraft medical devices and weapons among many others. For a career in mechanical engineering, most universities countrywide offer the degree course under the school of engineering. Internationally many schools and tertiary institutions offer courses such as Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Bachelor of Science in technology or bachelor of science in applied technology but with an emphasis in mechanical engineering. The coursework consists of a five or six-year curriculum within which one graduates as a fully equipped mechanical engineer with vigours training done in a form of practicals, internships, and class theory work. In the United States, schools offering the course are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology to ensure standard, and similar course requirements are considered among universities.
