Scholars and classrooms alike have studied Beowulf, the classic and rousing tale of man and monster, for decades. It has evolved into becoming a staple piece of old English literature and really reflects on how very few pieces of historic epics remain in our society today.
Its own survival throughout the ages is as epic as the tale it tells. Beowulf is a sixth century story that revolves around epic heroes and supernatural creatures. Although the author and origin of the story is mainly a mystery it is known that Beowulf had quite a colorful past of surviving library fires and being passed around every century.
However Beowulf himself seems to be entirely fictional although the story can find some of its roots in old Scandinavian lore and culture. This leads to the conclusion of whether or not a fictional story

Interlaced between its tales of human struggles and battles with monsters lies a narrative that strips to the core what we understand and view about ourselves.
In the story there are many struggles between man and monster, good and evil, and truth and light. The encounters with Grendel, his mother, and a dragon highlight these conflicts. The battles are each depicted in such a way that the reader first feels fear as the hero is put in a challenging situation, but starts to instill himself with hope and pride as the hero’s courage and might outshine the evil. This contrasting narrative really allows for the story to connect with the audience and allows them to feel emotions that the hero is feeling.
The poem also touches on many struggles that life has in general. In the poem’s narrative, challenge is constant and death always waits. Although somewhat exaggerated, this is quite similar to our daily lives. True, there are many victories in life; such as when Beowulf killed Grendel and his mother, but in the end even a hero’s life is claimed by old
Beowulf started his journey to the horrible place known as the Chili Cook Off. He knew that he might not return for this place but he needed to prove that no chili can defeat the great one known as Beowulf. He walked into the sign up booth to enter his name, he writes his name as BEOWULF: THE UNDEFEATED ONE. He entered the great hall of chili and smelt a smell that was only for the gods, but the gods let this smell enter the mortal world for one day. Beowulf knew that he will embrace this smell for as long as he can. He grabbed his weapons of choice, the styrofoam bowl and the plastic spoon. He reached the first challenged known as the Sweet and Tangy Chili.
