The Evidence Surrounding the 9/11 World Trade Center Attacks, and Subsequent Tower Collapse

Best Essays

On September 11, 2001 four passenger commercial jet airliners were hijacked and as a result approximately 3,000 human lives were lost. When asked about 9/11, many can recall exactly what they were doing when they heard the news that a plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings and many Americans can tell you how it all unfolded and the reason behind such a travesty. The “official story” provided by officials, and restated by Sofia Shafquat, producer of “9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions” say that “four passenger planes were hijacked and taken radically off course, within an hour, two of the planes had flown into the enormous steel towers of the World Trade Center, creating fires and eventually toppling them” (Shafquat). …show more content…

Dr. Steven Jones, a well known physicist and archaeometrist, disagrees; he admits that this could not have been possible due to the laws of physics (28). He claims a delay would be expected between each dropped floor, taking longer for the building to collapse. Shafquat reinforces Jones’s and uses the computer claim by stating that “pancake floors would lose speed.” Jones discusses the idea that the buildings collapsed due to controlled demolition. He states:
No steel-beam high-rise had ever before (or since) completely collapsed due to fires! However, such complete and nearly symmetrical collapses in tall steel-frame buildings have occurred many times before—all of them due to pre-positioned explosives in a procedure called “implosion” or controlled demolition. (22)
Jones uses the theory that a series of “shock and awe” explosions coupled with the use of thermite-incendiaries accounts for the towers falling into fine dust instead of pilling up shattering floors of concrete, which is what one might expect from a non-explosive collapse (28). These two ideas are definitely debatable and should be explored for more evidence. In addition to how the towers fell, we must understand the properties of steel. Because the Twin Towers were built from steel and capable of
