The Evolution of Gunsmithing
Firearms have been used for centuries to alter history. Without the creation of it the world would be very different places. Some countries may never have been formed and some may have been saved. Firearms have built cities and destroyed them; they have caused crime and stopped crime, just think where we would be without them.
One of the most important aspects behind a gun is the gun powder. Gun powder is an explosive powder that when ignited sets off a violent reaction. The discovery of gun powder or black powder is very ironic, the Chinese in the early 12th century were trying to make a potion for immortality and they discovered what would be one of the most deaths inductive creations known to man. Gun powder

This is one of the first actions on a firearm that was more than simple hand cannon. The first recorded use of this kind of firearm was in 1364 according to the timeline from PBS history deceives website.
A century after the matchlock was first recorded there was another incredible breakthrough in the field of Gunsmithing it was the wheel lock. This was a true innovation in firearm history this is the first firearm with rifling to increase accuracy. How this gun worked is when the trigger is pulled it spins a wheel that has rough steel and at the same time a hammer is lowered on to the spinning wheel causing sparks to ignite the powder in the flash pan in turn propelling the projectile out of the rifled barrel. The only disadvantage with this firing mechanism is the cost it was too expensive to produce very many.
In the year 1630 a new way to ignite firearms was invented, it was the flint lock. The flint lock is a rather simple mechanism that has a piece of flint on a spring loaded hammer that rubs on a piece of steel that throws sparks in to a pan of gun powder that leads in to the barrel. One of the only disadvantages of this mechanism is that if it was tipped on its side the gunpowder will fall out recurring more powder or the inability to fire the gun. This did combine the matchlock with the wheel lock to create an effective firearm at a reasonable price.

The first firearm was not a gun, or a rocket launcher. It was a spear. A spear that was able to frag, called the Fire Lance. “The pear-flower spear or Li hua Ch'iang was an early form of fire lance, that is a spear-like weapon combining a long spear with a simple firework-like charge at the end underneath the spear head” (Dugdale-Pointon). This weapon was first introduced in the 10th century of China. Warriors outfitted these weapons with bamboo, and were loaded
In the late 1800s, guns were muzzle loading, single shot muskets and six shot swing out cylinder revolvers. The “…swing-out cylinder revolvers were also ‘double action’ (DA)…” (Supica). Guns have evolved into multiple round, high powered, automatic rifles and multiple shot, automatic pistols.
A firearm is a very complex tool that has grown in s verbal ways over several years, each version better than the last, all of which changing the world in a new way.All across the world and across several eras firearms have been used, firearms have also been the reason for wars and laws, as a very important part of our history it is appropriate that several facts are clearly stated.Back in the Han dynasty, under the leadership of emperor Wu Di, gunpowder was discovered. This particular document will include such topics such as the one previously stated and early firing systems and other weapons, also a brief history of military issued pistols through America's history and your rights as an american citizen to bear arms. Firearms, from early
Guns have played a major role in shaping and constructing the United States of America to the way it is today. In the early times of United States history, the founding fathers set in stone that every man has the right to bear arms. In recent years there have been numerous politicians that have been fighting to take that right away from us. The Second Amendment to the Unites States Constitution states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The history of the gun has played major roles in conquering land and defending the land that one would call home. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the Colonists relied heavily on firearms to take and protect the land from Native Americans and Europeans. During the time of the Revolutionary War, every male citizen was required to own a firearm to help fight off British forces .
Gunsmiths also used a device similar to the boring bench. They used a rifling bench its job was to cut a series of spiral groves into a rifle. This made the bullet spin which would increase its accuracy.
Civilizations throughout history used this technology as it adapted to feed, defend, fight, enslave other civilizations, races, and individuals. Looking at the impact firearms had on Civilizations goes back to China during the 13th century AD, after the Chinese invented black powder during the 9th century AD. These inventions of technology were later transmitted to the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. The direct ancestor of the firearm is the fire lance, the mother of the guns. (Forgive the
The “flintlock” musket. Ironically, the flintlock musket was originally designed for King Louis by a Frenchman named Marin le Bourgeoys. As opposed to matchlock, flintlock muskets didn’t require a lit match to ignite the gunpowder. Instead, the flintlock created a spark that did this. The shooter no longer had to use a match to fire the weapon. This increased the fire rate and limited the amount of gunpowder used while shooting. This innovation led to the birth of the modern firearm (The Firearms Guide
Hiram Maxim was the inventor of this fascinating weapon who created it in the year 1884. The machine gun was first seen and used by the British in 1885. Machine guns gave inspiration to many countries in creating their own version of the gun by making improvements and trying to maximize the number of rounds it can fire within a certain amount of time. Even though the British were the first to bring out the bad boy, the Germans quickly produced more than 12,000 machine guns which was more than what the British and French had combined. The first machine guns were seen at the start of the war in the Western Front in 1914.
The first prototypes of gunpowder was invented in the late 8th century by Chinese Alchemists. Studies show that gunpowder was initially not created as a weapon, but experiments were done with charcoal and sulfur to try and create eternal life and transmute materials into other substances. The earliest written records of gunpowder were written in the 11th century in the Song Dynasty. Due to the Mongolian
For generations and generations guns have been the icon of america. Guns can protect you from criminals and dangerous situations. They surround us everyday, whether it be law enforcement personnel, in movies, or advertisements. Guns can not only be used to protect the individual but also the population from a tyrannical government, which is exactly why the founding fathers were so intent on making guns the forefront of what america is all about. The down side to having guns so relevant in society is the fact that often it can fall into the wrong hands.
Even with the Flintlock ignition system dominating firearms and obscurity over percussion cap claims, Joshua Shaw is given credit for creating the percussion cap in 1814. This percussion cap primer used an explosive mixture of fulminate of mercury, chlorate of potash, and ground glass in a small cup. This priming cup was positioned beneath the hammer and would explode releasing gas into the flash hole of the nipple when released. The charge would ignite the powder charge propelling the projectile out of the muzzle. In today’s modern cartridges, the basic components are very similar, but with upgrades.
Gunpowder also known as black powder, is the earliest known explosive chemical. Before 19th century gunpowder is the only explosive can be use. Gunpowder was invented in 9th century by Chinese. Chinese first used
Bula the invention I will be inquiring in is gun powder some of you might be think what is gunpowder? And what does it look like luckily I will be telling you all about it. Gunpowder is an explosive material that sears rapidly to create a high pressure gas. Enlargement of this gas inside the cask of a gun or artillery can expedite a bullet to great pace Gunpowder is accordingly used as a propellant in a variety of ammunition. It is also used in bombs for blasting operations, in fireworks, and in
During the Industrial Revolution the production of the rifle increased. There were whole factories dedicated to producing the rifle. The guns were being produced faster because they needed to improve the production. With wars becoming more common they needed a faster and more efficient way to make guns. So the factories were invented and the production was made easier and more efficient.
As well as making it possible to shoot in the rain, an unknown accessory that was not known by the European was placed (Perrin 1979, 17). Many other techniques were being implemented in the development of the matchlock. As a result, the Japanese spended years enhancing their weapons (Perrin 1979). Although, other countries had guns long before, only Japan were able to master the new techniques and acquire a large scale of domestic manufacture (Perrin 1979). As local Matchlock was being produced in many parts of Japan, by 1556 it was estimated that there were more than 300,000 guns in the country (Brown 1948, 238). Certainly that by the end of the 16th century, guns in Japan were more common than anywhere else in the world (Perrin
