The Extinction Of Bees

The honey bee population is going down, and while most people think it doesn't really matter or just don’t notice it, they should because it is a very big problem. I think the other people should try and change that. If bees die then it will not be good, at all. In this persuasive piece of writing, I will be trying to make people rethink about the bee population, and what it could potentially do to the human race.

A revolution is spreading through the world of work because of changes in information, technology and communication. Information and technology has lessened the gaps between individuals and it is no longer necessary for people to be in close geographic location to enhance working capabilities. Telework means working at a distance and technology makes this possible. Teleworkers are defined as employees or contractors who work at least one day per month; they are also referred to as telecommuters. Research shows that teleworkers work nine days per month at home with three hours per week during normal business hours. Teleworkers seek to blend work responsibilities and personal benefits to enable them handle their work better and life responsibilities.

Pollination, produce, honey, bee´s wax, life wouldn't be the same without some of the few products bees create and work their whole lives doing. Bees are dying off, over the past few years the bee population has decreased which means some of our very beloved products have either increased in price or may be hard to find. We as humans that have so much control over this planet should help the bees so they can help us. Honeybees are an essential part of humanity.

In “Why Bees Are Disappearing,” Marla Spivak, an American entomologist, sheds light on the importance of bees in the pollination process as well as the decline in bee population. Spivak claims that “bees are the most important pollinators” because over one third of crop production across the world depends on bee pollination. However, bee populations have decreased since the end of World War II due to “multiple, interacting causes of death.” These causes are monocultures, pesticides, diseases, and flowerless landscapes, and they all pose a threat to plant diversity and food production. In order to prevent significant consequences and reverse impacts already made, Spivak encourages the audience to plant bee-friendly flowers without pesticide contamination so that bees, and therefore people, have access to better nutrition.

The birth of a child is thought of as beautiful- new life, new beginnings, and new experiences. In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, one child- Pearl- is anything but beautiful; she becomes a physical link in the town to her mother's sin. This sin conveys the young child as demon-like simply because of her lineage. The townspeople deem her unholy because she is unlike the other children who live "normal" lifestyles. Although Pearl seems to be rude, inappropriate, and defiant, she stands up for herself in ways that make her strong-willed, lively, and observant.

Bees are the reason we have jelly, fruit, nuts, coffee and so many other vegetation (Lecture 09/27). Without these creatures we would lose so much more of our biodiversity, which is already suffering from other anthropogenic actions. Our society has a habit of finding the most cost efficient methods to produce goods that please the consumers without considering all the consequences of these actions. More importantly, we do not recognize the harm that we have caused until the damage is outrageous and requires a solution. But, this problem cannot follow those footsteps because it is essential for our ecosystem to thrive. If you didn’t know, honeybees are dying rapidly, and it is more serious than you might think. The decline of the honeybee is fairly complicated, as we cannot simply target one cause for the honeybee’s decreasing numbers. The combination of factors includes parasitic mites, Colony Collapse Disorder, harmful pesticides, poor nutrition, and habitat loss, all of which have contributed to the loss of droves of honeybees. This issue much more important than what the attention it is getting implies, as honeybees are an essential part to the agricultural society, and the human race in general. It seems these days there is a lot of movements and protest on just about every debatable topic. The most recent, young and elderly are protesting the election of our new President of the United States, Back the Blue in regard to racial protests, and though some may never think of it, there are even protest about the saving of bees. Saving bees is something I have not given much thought to, but have come to realize that bees are very important and benefit us in our day to day lives. Honey bees help to provide our food, including honey. Fruits and vegetables must have bee pollination to produce and grow. In addition to our food and flowers, our native plants require bees to survive or they would be extinct. They are also important in providing the livelihood of farmers and growers in the food industry. So, this slogan is very fitting, Bees Matter!

An issue that is very important to me is the environment. More specifically, the issue of the declining bee population . As a vegetarian, animals are quite important to me. Honeybees and Bumblebees are pollinators. Pollinators fertilize plants . The bees have a crucial role in the growth of flowers and plants. of pollinate 80% of flowering crops, according to the Department of Agriculture. If bees were to disappear, we would lose a lot of our staple crops. This will induce national effects on America. The bee population is declining at an alarming rate. The main reason why this is happening is because of pesticides. Science with no respect to the environment and to people has catastrophic effects. But, I believe that we can reverse this problem.

Bees play an extremely vital role in pollination and in people’s everyday lives in ways that individuals often overlook. Without honey that is produced by bees, consumers wouldn’t have nearly as many modern medications.

There have been crestfallen decreases in the population of bees because of pests and of our pesticides. While you may hate bees because of their stingers, they are an enormous part of the pollination process. To be sure, one of the crops that depend on their pollination the most are the almond crops, these crops would go extinct without bees. Without bees, a lot of our prices would sky rocket. They help grow a lot of our food but all they get in response are the disastrous effects of our pesticides. In the interim, the sharp increase of bee-fatal pesticides isn’t getting any better. At the same time, the bees are subjects to the deadly varroa mites and colony collapse disorder. Simultaneously, bees are a huge help agriculture, without them we would be in a huge predicament. There would be as many of diverse crops because when bees pollinate , they cross breed plants at the same time. Then we would have to pollinate most of the crops. In effect, I believe that we should care about bees more. Like Albert Einstein said, “If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.”

Brit Amos begins talks about the loss of foods stating that “Commercial beehives pollinate over a third of {North} America’s crops and that web of nourishment encompasses everything from fruits like peaches, apples, cherries, strawberries and more, to nuts like California almonds, 90 percent of which are helped along by the honeybees” (Amos). Honey bees are much more famous for producing honey. However, most people do not know that “the benefits of honey go beyond its great taste” (“Health Benefits of Honey”). For example, “The 3 key health benefits of honey are related to the fact that: 1. Honey is nature's energy booster 2. Honey is a great immunity system builder 3. Honey is a natural remedy for many ailments” (“Health Benefits of Honey”). It is interesting to think that something as small and insignificant as the honey bee can provide us with so many basic needs.
