Though the consequences of citizen’s actions through technology today are not as severe or are non punishable, they do not take the government’s surveillance as seriously as the citizens of Oceania did in 1984. One NSA system can reach about 75% of all US Internet traffic, communications by foreigners and Americans (Gorman n. pag.). The US government's defense to surveillance claims is that the justification is National Security (Calamur n. pag.)., and this may be true, but the question of the freedom to privacy ratio, as a free nation, is still undecided. One way surveillance is now even more accessible is due to Google Glass. "With Google Glass, nobody's pointing a camera... phone. You no longer know if you're being filmed... an unspoken social rule is being violated" (Brown 42). and gives the government the ability to see from the point of view of anyone. With most every person you meet having quick access to some sort of recordable technology, it is easy to have your actions recorded or documented without your knowledge. The information can be easily spread around the world without your knowing or permission with just a simple touch. As said before, “.....an unspoken social rule is being violated” (Brown 42), taking away the sense of privacy and security felt by many Americans. Living in 21th century is like living in a glass box. We are living in society that needs only a few clicks to get information of others.

“More than three billion people worldwide now use the internet (Time), and 80 percent of them access if from their smartphones” (Smart Insights). A smartphone is a mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, and much more. There is an abundant amount of smartphone brands out there in the world and while they all cost different prices, they all perform the same job. Each person uses their smartphone for various reasons, whether it’s for work or to make calls or texts. Smartphones have changed society in various ways, both good and bad. Although countless individuals think that smartphones have ruined American society, smartphones have actually benefited society because of more safety precautions, information on hand, and entertainment.

The Google Glass is one of the most popular new examples of wearable technology [19]. The Google Glass is a pair of glasses, prescription or non-prescription, that has a camera, touchpad and a display that can do multiple technological tasks: search, navigation, Gmail, Calendar, Now cards, phone calls, text messages, photos, videos, and video calls [17]. Glass has yet to be released to the public, but has been available for developers since February 2013 [9]. Although the Google Glass is still a relatively new piece of technology [17], it certainly hasn’t been lacking debates on the legality and privacy concerns of the device.

Despite being a potentially lifesaving device, there have been some concerns from people inside and outside the medical field’s community. These concerns include privacy concerns, fear of users being distracted, HIPAA compliance, and network issues, but Google Glass has the ability to overcome each of these obstacles. With the correct applications, proper training, and the correct network, along with the current rules already enforced in the medical field, these hurdles can easily be conquered.

This report on innovative technology is based on wearable camera technology. I used two internet sites to help me find out the history and how these wearable cameras work. I used magazines, newspapers and journals to show how different types of wearable cameras are being used today and the great impacts they have had in our society. In several articles I found that the police departments in different states use several brands of wearable cameras. Nutritionists use these cameras to help people keep an accurate log of the food intake they are consuming. Care givers and nurses are wearing the cameras in their field to help track dementia patients. They record patients to show types of behaviors they displayed and then use the footage to help with the difficult behaviors. Surgeons use a Go Pro Hero 4 to record eye repair surgeries from a surgeon’s point of view and use it as a teaching tool. Aaron Chase a professional mountain biker, and Felix Baumgartner, a record breaker sky diver, use Go Pro cameras to record their adventures.
