Everyone knows the famous I have a dream speech, by Martin Luther King Jr., but don’t know why it was made in the first place. First let’s go all the way to after the civil war, when slavery was abolished. Next let’s go to the civil rights movement. Finally let’s go to the modern day. First let’s go all the way to after the civil war, when slavery was abolished. In this time (1865), the freed slaves wanted rights like the whites. The blacks had no rights given to them except freedom. They wanted to be as equal as the whites living with them. Many thought that the whites had taken over everything in society. They wanted to have equal education, so they got that at Topeka, in Brown v. Board of Education.
