a) The mythic theme of The Fault in Our Stars is to show ‘the reality of terminal cancer. The major theme is about cancer which is a depressed and uncomfortable topic for everybody. Yet, this film uses humorous phrases to alleviate the heaviness of the whole story. The reason why Hazel and Gus always make fun of themselves is that being terminal cancer at a young age is not an easy thing to handle. Therefore, the story shows how these teenagers deal with this tough situation in their own way. The most obvious example of cancer’s reality is the reappearance of Gus’s cancer. Even though he tries to maintain his humor and spirit through the end, in reality he is struggling and suffering from his terminal …show more content…
I would recommend this movie because it is suitable for all ages not only teenagers but also adults. The Fault in Our Stars is not just a typical teenage love story. It is about an inspection of life. It starts with these three kids who have a bit more on their plate than average teenagers and they react according to their personalities. They are smart and funny but unfortunately they just happen to have cancer. It quite a sad movie but you will laugh at the same time. It might sound exaggerating that after watching this movie you will become a new person. However, I’m sure your perspectives toward life will change much or
Augustus makes an impact on Hazel’s life. Augustus and Hazel meet at Support Group and grow a close bond. Augustus and Hazel fall deeply in love throughout the story. When Augustus’ cancer sprung up again, he asked Hazel to write him an eulogy. In Hazel’s eulogy she says, “My name is Hazel. Augustus Waters was the great star-crossed love of my life. Ours was an epic love story, and I won’t be able to get more than a sentence into it without disappearing into a puddle of tears”(Green 259). This shows that when Augustus dies he will leave a (mental) scar on Hazel, because Hazel will deeply miss Augustus when he dies. Augustus transformed Hazel
The Fault in our stars, John Green, Fiction The novel the fault in our stars was written by author John Green and published in 2012. Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar inspired the title of the book. The story is narrated by Hazel Grace, a 16-year-old girl who is diagnosed with cancer. One-day Hazel is obligated by her parents to attend a support group where she can meet new friends who are going through the same situation she is going through. That is where Hazel meets and falls in love with 17-year-oldAugustus Waters. As they become the best of friends Hazel shares her favorite book “An Imperial Affliction” with August. The book ended mid- sentence which led August to find the author. The author invited Hazel to Amsterdam to discuss the ending of the book. This is when their venture begins to truly find the meaning in life.
Despite the adversity they face, the characters in The Fault in Our Stars identity lies within their inner selves, and is not defined by societal expectations. Hazel expresses her frustration with the lesser standard that is expected of cancer patients, saying “According to Maslow, I was…unable to feel secure in my health and therefore unable to reach for love and respect and art…which is utter horseshit: The urge to make art or contemplate philosophy does not go away when you are sick” (Green 213). According to society, cancer patients, and those who are not “secure in their health” are restricted from experiencing life at its fullest. The outside world sees Hazel in singular terms, as “a cancer kid”, unable to reach for greatness;
The Fault in Our Stars is a novel written by John Green mainly about a relationship that develops between two teens known as Hazel and Augustus. The teens met at a support group for kids with cancer, in “the heart of jesus”. There are many side stories to go along with the main one; however, the book does have swearing and a semi-graphic scene (not much different from normal teenage life in a high school). I do not believe that this book should be banned because it is an accurate representation of what high school life in this situation. It also shouldn’t be banned because it is an entertaining book. When the book ends you will notice that it doesn’t end with “happily ever after” or a fairy tale ending, in fact it is realistic.
No matter how old you are, you might know what It feels like to lose a loved one. Hazel Grace has never been anything but terminal, until she meets Augustus Waters, and that’s when her story is about to be completely rewritten. The novel is an emotional roller coaster dealing with first loves, terminal illnesses, secrets, passion and trust. In the novel, The Fault In Our Stars, Hazel Grace must go through what any person with a terminal disease must go through and beyond that: overcoming a terminal disease, love, and fear.
For this project, I decided to read “The Fault in Our Stars,” a novel written by John Green. This book is about 16 year old Hazel Grace, who is diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She attends weekly Cancer Support Group, where she meets Augustus Waters, a “very intelligent and hot” boy who is currently in remission. “You know… its kids’ stuff, but I always thought my obituary would be in all the newspapers, that I’d have a story worth telling. I always had this secret suspicion that I was special” (Green, 240). When Augustus and Hazel meet at his house after support group he shows her his medals and tells her the story of how he used to be a basketball player till the day he got diagnosed with osteosarcoma cancer, a type of bone cancer that spreads from one limb in the skeleton to another, which is why he has an artificial leg. Augustus also tells her about his family and sisters then asks her

But there was one boy the Hazel really liked. His name was Augustus Waters but people call him Gus as a nickname. Augustus Waters, a seventeen year old boy, had osteosarcoma which is a cancer in the leg. He ended up having a prosthetic leg.

In his novel, The Fault in Our Stars, John Green successfully creates a realistic yet tragic love story between two teenagers fighting a common battle against cancer. The Fault in Our Stars utilizes foreshadowing, dreams, and death to make this novel one-of-a-kind. Unlike many novels based on teenagers with cancer, the cancer stricken teen herself, Hazel Lancaster, narrates the story. Only 16-years-old, Hazel is forced to drag an oxygen tank around with her to breath, due to her incapable lungs.
Firstly, within the novel, it is clear that Hazel is a caring person and is fully aware of what her body’s condition does to her
In the world, over 12.7 million people discover they have cancer. The Fault In Our Stars, by John Green is a compelling novel that presents the story of a sixteen year-old girl named Hazel who suffers from thyroid cancer that spread to her lungs. Their relationship drives the plot forward because the story is about how they fall into love and support each other through hardships; it drives them to go see Mr Peter Van Houten together and to care for each other even as Augustus is dying. The story also explores the theme of dying as their relationship struggles to keep afloat with Gus suffering from terminal cancer, and Hazel has to deal with grief as she copes with her partner’s death. Most importantly, their relationship highlights the theme of love. Hazel and Gus are devoted to each other up till the very end of the story, as seen from… Their relationship illustrates the enduring and touching power of love.
In the novel, “The Fault in Our Stars” has helped me in many ways like becoming more open minded about many things that I wasn’t exposed to before. The literary book, “The Fault in Our Stars” gives us an insight into two young teenagers' lives that have been diagnosed with cancer, but still live their lives to the fullest even though they have a limited amount of time. “You gave me a forever within the numbered of days, and I’m grateful” (260). John Green, through the characters of his book, infers that even if you have the shortest life, you can still create a meaningful one which would consist of care, love, and many other things that fulfill you or another
