The Features of Written Language and Speech
In English language there are two different ways of actually presenting language. These are written language and speech. These two factors of speech both include many different features between themselves. These features are mostly opposite to each other as they are completely different ways of presenting language.
Written language is structured into paragraphs unlike general speech which is hardly thought about before being said and is flowing naturally. Spoken language can be directed to a number of people whereas written language can be directed to many but is still very personal and confidential. It can be read at a reader’s individual pace so he/she does not have to keep up with the writer. This is different to when speech is used it is often directed to a group of people and even if it is a one to one conversation the speech is usually transient which means it is directly responded to but however it is then forgotten. This does clash with written language as we understand it to be permanent which has been used in many circumstances as proof of something as it cannot be changed. Also when speaking to an audience the speech can be amended almost instantly whereas in written language it takes time and thought to configure exactly what needs to be written.
Often when talking, a tone of voice is used, a pitch of voice and the stress put into words. These are all called prosodic features which convey emotion within speech. This emotion cannot be reflected in written language it can only be shown during speech. Paragraphs also help writing to flow whereas in speech the conversations usually have digressions which help it flow adequately. Words can be repeated plenty of times as it can help to prove a point however during written language repetition does not look of good quality

Phonics is described as “understanding letter-sound relationships, as well as larger letter pattern/sound pattern relationships” (Ruddell, 2009). Though in my opinion there is a lot more to phonics than this. There are several aspects to phonics, different types of phonics, negatives to the idea, and several ways to teach it. In this paper I will address all of these based on research I found, the discussion I had with my peers, and my own opinion.
Whole Language versus Phonics has been a question among many top educational groups for years. Which is the best way to teach kindergarten children the proper way to speak and learn the English Language? There are many valid reasons why experts argue for both phonics and/or whole language. The best way to prepare for a presentation, one must consider the best method, the type of presentation and the audience for a given topic. There are four different types of presentation methods they are; Impromptu, Extemporaneous Speaking, Using a Manuscript, and Memorization. Each of the four methods is appropriate in certain situations. Impromptu is a speech that frequently involves no preparation time and forces you to think on your feet.
