Introduction Being practiced in many different cultures, aphrodisiac is a legendary substance defined as any food or drug that could arouses the sexual desire and increases sexual pleasure with better performance for either male of female (Kotta et al. 2013). Aphrodisiac could trigger one’s sexual desire—libido, enhancing sex drive or sexual pleasure (Rajagopalan 2013). Active molecules crossing the blood brain barrier to promote sexual arousal through the central nervous system, which works as the regular mechanism of an aphrodisiac, according to several scientific studies (Sahoo et al. 2014). Almost all stimulants could be referred as aphrodisiacs (Rajagopalan 2013). Therefore, I will try to come up with a more detailed category for aphrodisiac substances, through examinations for the evidence and support that are provided in various plant and substance researches. Direct Aphrodisiac —substances that is believed to have specific effect to sexual organs Food or substance from plant Tribulus terrestris (TT) is a worldwide-distributed flowering herb that has been used as a traditional sexual stimulant for a long time (Shamloul 2010). Animal researches have gained significant correlation between increasing erectile function and oral administration through the study of the plant extract (Shamloul 2010). Through increasing the sexual hormone levels, TT may have a mechanism of enhancing erectile ability (Shamloul 2010). However, no clinical studies have proved these and some studies have indicates that no direct correlation of TT administration and improved human libido (Shamloul 2010; Kotta et al. 2013). Panax Ginseng is also called Asian Ginseng from the family Araliaceae, which is a slow-growing plant with fleshy roots (Shamloul 2010).
