The four democratic principles I selected are citizen participation, human rights, due process of law, and federalism. I believe human rights and due process of law are vital and essential to democracy because human rights and due process is universal and cannot be taken away from any citizen. When it comes to citizens’ participation, it is vital component to some and not essential to some individuals and it is an individual choice. Some individuals do not want to participate in voting, debating, or have the desire to be knowledgeable in public topics and affairs. Lastly, federalism is not essential to democracy because it is not universal. More democracies are adopting federalism, which will make addressing citizens needs and their interest effectively.

According to (Ene, 2014) the vital component for citizens in a democracy is citizens’ participation and it takes numerous methods. Citizens have a responsibility to become knowledgeable about public topics, to observe the comportment of their leaders and councils, and to communicate their individual beliefs. Human rights are worldwide acknowledged and assured. Each person has the right to have their personal opinions, including their religious views, and to speak and compose what they ruminate. Everybody has the right to pursue dissimilar resources of data and concepts. Everyone has the right to socialize with other individuals, and to arrange and participate in organizations of their own selection, including employment unions. Everyone has the right to gather and to protest government movements.
