Learning Assets In considerations for the various new techniques that have been added to the classroom in aid of learning, the four learning assets I have chosen to infuse are the lecture, videos, discussion/blogs and a test/ quiz component. The vision is that the setup will improve operations and enhance learning. The current LMS is supported by the technical department on staff. The video embedding will avoid trainees and students from having to hyperlink to another page and working through expired links or browser issues. The lectures will be recorded, so they will be able to be viewed off site. The lectures for the most part will be synchronous, with breaks for note taking and a question and answer period. The goal is for the lecture to be a synchronous event. Happening at the various sites at a set time. The other components would be asynchronous. Giving individuals to go over the material in a more remote setting that may work better for them, yet still giving them access to the instructor if they are unclear about any part of the material. Nian-shing (2006) explains that synchronous learning environments, “provide savings in terms of time and cost, in many situations they can also outperform both asynchronous online instruction and traditional face‐to‐face”. The hope is that the flexibility and options would prove helpful for the learners. Just like the video and discussion, the test portion being asynchronous would allow for the learners to operate under their best elements and results would be best then rather forcing all learners to operate under the same mechanism. Goals By the end of the training sessions members of His and Her should be able to: 1) List vision and mission of the company. 2) Create concise and effective lesson plans. 3) Pass all modules on compliance & requirements for students with disabilities classrooms. 4) Be familiar with workplace behavior and guidelines 5) Display a firm understanding of First Aid and Safety measures. Hence, if a person takes any other online class they will not be afforded such interaction. Additionally, in order to partake in such a class one does not simply need to buy the typical classic course tools such as a textbook, pencil or pen and a notebook. Rather, this type of course also requires one to purchase or own a headset with a microphone or a webcam. The reason for this is because one uses it to communicate and further access the class’s various visual aids, see the teacher’s face, and observe the instructor’s body language.
Edmundson goes into detail about the dismissal and rehiring of the school president because of the lack of an online learning program. He questions if online learning can be as good as in class learning and references how he and other professors are able to read the students and figure out when they are understanding a subject or even if they are not “getting” the course. He uses an example of a pre-recorded class as to why it is not a valuable learning tool. The facilitator or professor should provide timely responses to learners so that discussions remain active and ongoing. The more students participate in online discussions, the more they are able to benefit. MacKnight (2000) highlights that online instructors should contribute to ongoing discussions via the use of scaffolding to maintain the focus of the discussion and guide interactions toward a more critical analysis of course concepts.
The manager of the training department envisions training to split into asynchronous and synchronous. The basic functionality of the EMR can be taught using E-Learning courses, and a more personal approach will be a face to face training. In a sense human beings can actually be programmed to react a certain way, we call this learning. In actuality we learn by experiencing certain events which brings forth a permanent behavior. Our learned behaviors may come from nature or nurture. Furthermore we have to keep in mind that not all types of changes in behaviors are due to learning. As previously mentioned, nature contributes to behavior. We are raised to learn as soon as we were babies it starts with the simply and then evolves into more complex processes such as observational, classical and operant learning.
As we continue in the future, online classes are becoming more and more popular. Students are able to work and continue education with more flexibility. The most common problem with the online class is communication, as well as learning is not always successful. In a recent article by Maria Konnikova, Ziming Liu, a professor at San Jose State University suggests, “On screen, people tended to browse and scan, to look for keywords, and to read in a less linear, more selective fashion. On the page, they tended to concentrate more on following the text.”(Konnikova. Par. 3). Perhaps instead of just an online class, an instructor combines the two. Some parts of the class, such as video lectures should be presented online, and other things like homework or work be done in class.

The most obvious difference in online learning versus traditional classroom learning is the setting. Traditionally, students would gather in a classroom where they would take notes, listen to lectures, turn in work, and take exams. Online learning, on the other hand, can take place in multiple locations at various times. Online college programs, like Bethels, give more flexibility to students because there are no set times for lectures. Videos of lectures and other important information relating to the class can be viewed at any time and they can also be viewed as often as needed. Because these lectures are constantly available, student can view the videos and reading material multiple times in order to get a better understanding of the class.
