As of a result of the New Madrid Earthquakes, citizens had to rebuild their homes, most didn't have to do this until after the 3rd earthquake. This meant citizens would have to rebuild homes and businesses with a stronger foundation and material to prevent them from getting destroyed incase of future earthquakes. “Earthquakes are caused when stress, building up within the rocks of the earth's crust, is released in a sudden jolt. Rocks crack and slip past each other causing the ground to vibrate.” Earthquakes are caused “when rock underground suddenly breaks along a fault. This sudden release of energy causes the seismic waves that make the ground shake.” When two plates are rubbing against each other, they don’t slide smoothly. The rocks catch onto each other and they don’t move. After awhile, the rocks start to break and when they do that’s when earthquakes are formed. There are four major types of earthquakes. They are tectonic, volcanic, collapse, and explosion. The most common type is tectonic earthquakes. These types of earthquakes occur when a geological force causes Earth’s plates to move past each other. Volcanic earthquakes occur before or after a volcanic eruption. The two types of volcanic earthquakes are: volcanic tectonic earthquakes and long period volcanic earthquakes. Collapse earthquakes are small earthquakes that occur in underground mines and are caused by the pressure produced within the rocks. Explosion earthquakes are man-made and are caused by
