“S is for Suu Kyi, fearless voice of Burma” (Cynthia 22). Aung San Suu Kyi has sacrificed a lot for Burma, or Myanmar, and its people. Suu Kyi has done a lot of fearless things for Myanmar, and its people, and she proves that you can do pretty much anything you want to in this world, when fighting for the right cause. Doing what is right, no matter the circumstance has brought Aung San Suu Kyi to do fearless things. In 1820 Burma was taken under British rule, and in 1886 was considered part of India thanks to the British (Baderstcher, “Our world: Myanmar”). In 1937, is when Burma got its official title as Burma, and became its own colony (Baderstcher, “Our world: Myanmar”; Schraff 1994:84). Suu Kyi 's father, Aung San , ran the “1940 's nationalist movement”, that secured Burma 's freedom, from Britten, and in 1948, Burma got its independence from Britten ( Ashby, Gore Ohrn 1995: 285; Schraff 1994:84). But Suu Kyi 's Father, wasn’t there to see that day, he was assassinated in 1947, “just months” before he was going to be the “leader of the new independent state”, but they still considered him as the “Father of Modern Burma” ( Ashby, Gore Ohrn 1995: 285; Victor 1998: 8). Aung San Suu Kyi was just 2 years old, when he was assassinated (Schraff 1994:84). Aung San Suu Kyi was born on June 19th , in Rangoon Burma, or now Yangon Myanmar, with a “father who craved independence, and a mother who had a great sense of duty” (Davis, 2015; Ashby, Gore Ohrn 1995:285).
