The geography, primarily the distances between settled areas in Texas was a real problem for the colonization of Texas by the Spaniards. The Spanish were well established in Mexico City in the south and in New Mexico to the north. However, the distance from Mexico City and the missions in San Antonio was about 700 miles (Doc A). Also, the distance from San Antonio to Santa Fe, New Mexico was about the same distance of 700 miles (Doc A). These were the two closest developed areas to the new colonies. In those days, travel was primarily by mule train and it would take around two months to travel these distances (Doc A). These vast distances made it difficult for trade and made it expensive to transport needed supplies to the newly settled areas. The expense of transportation between settlements lead to very slow economic development and without a chance to make a living people were just not willing to move to the new settlements. In addition to the distances, the land in the area was characterized by very rough terrain and with very little water (Doc A). 2. Some obstacles the English settlers in the Chesapeake overcame were indentured servitude and getting land from the natives. A majority of the settlers were indentured servants, and for all of the servants, they had to do a certain number of years of labor to be free (Foner 54). This was an obstacle that a lot of settlers had to overcome. It was a tough obstacle, with the labor being really intense, and many indentured servants were dying. Another obstacle that settlers overcame was the need for land, which meant dealing with the Indians.
Our Town is a play that takes place near the turn of the century in the small rural town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. The playwright, Thornton Wilder is trying to convey the importance of the little, often unnoticed things in life. Throughout the first two acts he builds a scenario, which allows the third act to show that we as humans often run through life oblivious to what is actually happening. Wilder attempts to show life as something that we take for granted. We do not realize the true value of living until we are dead and gone. The through-line of the action seems to be attention to the details of life. Wilder builds up a plot that pays attention to great details of living.

“The new world had an extraordinary richness of languages”(Native peoples prior to European arrival). In the fifteenth century, people in Europe began to explore west to seek new lands and resources because of economic problems. The Europeans came to America to look for gold and silver, but the trip would be difficult and dangerous because there were no maps and not much knowledge on how to get there.Prince Henrey took the challenge to make it possible for others to sail to the Americas without any knowledge on how to get there. He created a place where people who were interested could share their knowledge about geography.People learned about maps and navigation. Then, Henrys sailors finally decided to lead others to go west where eventually Jamestown would be created. In 1606, King James told the three royal charters to create a comfortable colony on the east coast. The English worried about being attacked from the Spanish so they chose almost an island where they parked their ships by tying them to the trees available. To honor the king, they named the place Jamestown(Culters at Jamestown).

Swedish culture is very prominent in the area of St.Charles, due to the plethora of Swedish settlers during the 1840’s. The lesser known background of the area is about the Native American community that was lead by Chief Pottawatomie who lead his tribe into the Black Hawk war.
