Watching And Reading Is Different “The life where nothing was ever unexpected. Or inconvenient. Or unusual. The life without color, pain or past”. In the science fiction novel, and the movie, The Giver by Lois Lowry, the protagonist, Jonas, was selected, for the biggest job in the society being the Receiver Of Memory. First, when he was going to the assembly to be assigned his number was not announced because the chief elder made a mistake, and then told the audience that he is selected not assigned. He received painful memories from the Giver. The past receiver was the daughter of the Giver, and her name was Rosemary. The Giver gave her pleasant memories, but the day she asked Giver to give her painful memory. She was not able to hold it …show more content…
It was a very hard time for Jonas to pass the boundary with Gabe because he has to walk 100 of miles in the snow, desert and also fall in the river which was a die or live situation. The book, and the movie are very different from each other because the movie is more technologically advanced, Jonas’ motivation is stronger in the movie, and there …show more content…
His main target in the book was just to save Gabe from the morning release. Now as he was going, Giver told Jonas that he can return all the memories to the community which was only a little part of him going to elsewhere, and that is also because of Gabe. For example, In the movie, his target was to achieve four goals, saving Fiona, and Asher to be released, saving Gabe from being released, and returning all the memories back to the community. Also, they won’t release Fiona, Asher, and Gabe because they will realize that release, in other words, is killing which is very bad and also it is a crime in our world. Another example, “And he had taken Gabriel, too”(169). This was the time when Jonas was leaving from the community, for Gabe to not be released. His main goal was to not let Gabe released, and that is why he left the community in the
This was when Jonas was determined on taking a memory and passing it to Gabe, even though he was having
Where to start with Jonas? I don't even know where to start but what went wrong with Jonas in the book he was suppose to be 12 but the actor that plays him in the movie is like 18, what a big jump. I guess i know why they did it, they did it for there can be romance in the book because it would be weird if they're little kids making out and doing romantic stuff. I can happily say Jonas full filled his role as a main/leading character.
The Giver transmits memories from the past to Jonas. He starts receiving memories of events like war, famine and disease. After receiving these memories
If you are given a choice to save a loved one would you? Jonas did. Because Jonas knows what release is so he is able to save Gabe from it. Jonas’ father doesn’t know what release means so he can’t make an informed choice. “We really have to protect people from wrong choices” (pg 99). Jonas is protecting his father. People need knowledge to make informed choices. People may not always make the right choice but they can try to fix their mistakes and they can realize that what they did is wrong and not be ignorant. “He had made the wrong one: the choice to leave. And now he was starving”(pg172). Jonas knew that if he didn’t save Gabe he would die so he only cared about Gabe. Jonas made the decision to leave and now he is facing the consequences. Lowry shows that every decision has an outcome.
According to the story, Jonas gives Gabe a new life without sameness and memories of their old community. On page 116 and 117 Jonas gives Gabe a memory to help him sleep through the night. Jonas would only be able to do that is Gabe was the next receiver of memories in their community.
In The Giver, there was a boy named Jonas who was selected to be the Receiver of Memory and was trained by a person named The Giver. When Jonas found out Gabriel was about to be released, he desperately wanted to save him by leaving the community with him and was successful. The Giver movie and The Giver book had lots of differences. Just to name a few that stood out a lot was in the movie they skipped the beginning, Asher didn’t try to stop Jonas and there also was no map. Therefore, since both the book and the movie are really different it’s really hard to declare which one is better. The book was good because unlike the movie, it included the beginning part of the book. However, in the movie, they made it more intense when everyone was chasing after Jonas, which made it really interesting. The reasons of how the movie and the book are different will be explained in the next few paragraphs.
In the novel “The Giver,” written by Lois Lowry, Jonas is a boy who follows the rules, spends time with friends and family, goes to school, and at the Twelves Ceremony is given the job as the Receiver of Memory. At the end of the novel, Jonas learns information that makes him leave the community to save the people he loves. As Jonas becomes older, he acknowledges that he is different from his family and the people surrounded by him. Once Jonas got his assignment as the Receiver of Memory, his maturity became inconsistent throughout the novel.
Jonas stole Gabriel from the dwelling that they both here staying at because his father said that they were going to have to release Gabe and he didn’t want that to happen to him so he stole him as he left and then rode off. Jonas thought Gabe was dead from the cold and then Jonas gave Gabe the whole memory of warmth to keep him warm so he doesn’t die. He does everything to make sure Gabe would stay warm and to keep him alive, he would give him the food first and he would wrap Gabe in most of the clothing to keep him warm. He just loves Gabe so much that he wanted to do anything to keep him safe and
Mary Radmacher once said, “courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow. ”In The Giver jonas gets selected to be the Receiver Of Memory. So the community don’t have to feel the pain, just jonas.
In the book The Giver by Lois Lowry Jonas, who is the dystopian protagonist, shows that he is very determined. Jonas is especially determined when he wanted to save Gabe and to get out of the community, when Jonas fell off the bike and he kept on going, and lastly Jonas was determined to learn with The Giver. First of all, Jonas was determined to leave the community and to save Gabe because Jonas had known that Gabe was special like him and in that community the people did not recognize how hard the receiver jobs were. On page 164 the text quotes “We obviously had to make a decision. Even I voted for Gabes release.”
Asher doing this is way more suspenseful and action-packed than the book, which makes it more powerful. My second reason why the movie is better than the book is the resolution and suspense. In the movie, the resolution is mostly the same as in the book. In the resolution, Jonas has to go to the border of memories. In the resolution, they add Jonas and Gabriel in the snow while Fiona is about to return to the community.
Also he took gabe to elsewhere with him because he wanted to prevent gabe from becoming release because jonas loves gabe and thinks of him as a brother. This makes the situation ten times worse because if he gets caught gabe will definitely be release and hurt jonas
The book and the movie on The Giver has many similarities and differences with each other. The three most important similarities were when Gabe was going to be released because he wasn't mature enough so Jonas took him to Elsewhere with him. Another one was when Jonas’s number was skipped during the Ceremony of 12 because he was choose for the greatest honor for the community. He was chosen to be the Receiver of Memory.
In addition, Jonas discovers the same house he saw in the memory and also hears music. Jonas gets the same memories in the movie. Gabe escapes with Jonas in both concepts The differences between The Giver and The Giver movie is that Jonas’s friend Asher has a different job in the movie than in the book. He has pilot in the movie and assistant director in the book.
In the movie, there is a border around the community, however, in the book, there is no border which is a really big thing. Why it’s important is because when Jonas passed the border memories went to everyone and so did the colors. No one had any colors except black, white, and grey. The reason he left is that he wanted to get Gabriel away from the community because they were going to release him.
