It was the first day of sixth grade and I was waiting outside for the school day to begin. Suddenly a bell rang and everyone began to walk inside. As I walked in, everything was overwhelming and scary, and I wanted to go back to elementary school where I felt less nervous and more relaxed. This relates to The Giver because it is about a boy named Jonas who wants to be given a good assignment for his adult life at a ceremony known as the Ceremony of Twelve. But, he was chosen to become the next Receiver of Memory for his community, and so he begins his training. Then during his training he receives memories in order to give him wisdom to lead his community, but he is conflicted and unsure of what he is supposed to do as he is being asked to do adult tasks. Therefore, the theme of The Giver is that growing up is a challenge for everyone.
